Yes, you are correct. That would be normal behavior upon remote start.

The battery in fob powers a transmitter for door locks, alarm activation, ect. A fob battery is not required to start the veh except for the remote start function.
To clarifiy: If the fob battery goes dead you can open the door with the key and then use the end opposite of the key on the fob to press the start button to start the veh. The round end on the fob has an RFID chip and must be within 1/4" or so of the button or actually pressing the button to start the veh.

Re: How Far Will '14 Drive With NO Key Fob ?

the remote start function also triggers a couple other fail safes. if someone tries to jump in while the truck is in remote start mote and presses the brake, it should turn off. Therefore you dont have the safety issue of the truck turning off while driving, you can never get to that point.

In my non jeep with aftermarket remote start i would always hit the remote start before turning the key to off. Then turn off the ignition, and pull out the key. The car would stay on for about 15min. Usually long enough for a quick run into a store.
