How fast does outside temp reading respond?

I've had a VW and a Mercedes and both outside temperature readings respond very quickly to the change from garage temp to outside temp. For example dropping from 55 degrees to 35 degrees after 30 seconds or just a few hundred yards down the road. Then I got a mazda cx-9 and and I'm halfway to work before it settles down to the outside temp. This is a problem as I change elevation on the way into work so the roads can go from wet to frozen or vice versa near my home. I'm looking at a 2014 WK2 and wondering how it does?

Re: How fast does outside temp reading respond?

I noticed it's been slow to update for me. A couple days on the way into work, It showed 50-60 degrees which is pretty accurate for the morning, but when leaving work and halfway home, I noticed it was still in that 50-60 degree range when it was actually 80+ out. By the time I pull into the garage, I then noticed it at the correct temp. My Ram never has this issue and my wife's Nitro never had it take this long as well. I'm wondering if this is a issue with the sensor or if it just takes that long for the Jeep thermometer to update.

Ugh. This doesn't sound promising.

Re: How fast does outside temp reading respond?

My wife has said it will drop from the 50's to the 30's before she even gets out of the driveway, 30 seconds max, so apparently results may vary.

That's a good report. Hopefully that is the norm. Is yours a 2014?

Re: How fast does outside temp reading respond?

My 2011 Overland had no issues. My 2014 Summit will display the same wrong temperature for hours and suddenly correct itself. Seems as though its not updating the reading as often as it should.

Yes, 2014 Laredo E. Maybe you rich people with all of your options overload the computer so it doesn't update as often? Just kidding...

Re: How fast does outside temp reading respond?

My Trailblazer will update quickly if the temperature sensor sees that it's colder than when last shut off. But if it sees it as warmer, such as later in the day, it will display the colder temperature it last saw when shut off. It will retain the colder temp for at least 5 minutes and sometimes longer. I assume this is for safety because they don't want to take the chance that roads are icy or something. The delay has been an annoyance at times.

Re: How fast does outside temp reading respond?

My 12 GC LTD sat in the Sun the other day in Colorado and show 95 degrees on a 68 degrees day. Took about 4-5 minutes driving to get to the right temp. have always wondered where the sensors are and how they compute ... does speed/air over the sensor affect it?

It always reads high for me... about 5 degrees higher.

The sensor for the outside temp is located behind the front grille on the drivers side in the US. You can see it when looking through the grille.
