Ah, good to know. It would be interesting to know if Mr. Computer has a firm number-assignment or can adapt if there is a change in options.

So in other words, does VIN-assignment mean that all options are set firm or could the same VIN adapt to feature-changes?

Re: How long can orders be changed?

The last eight have nothing to do with options.

They represent the model year, the assembly plant, and the sequence the numbers were assigned.

Great question. The only thing to go on is that since they r popping a new JGC out every few minutes that once it starts down the line (pre VIN assignment) it prolly can't b changed, wouldn't make since that it could.

Actually you have that reversed. The last 8 r the only unique #'s in VIN to that rig. That's why u only input last 8 when checking for Uconnect updates. The last 8 tie back to your specific optioned build.

VINS do not contain all the DNA. Changing options doesn't change a Vin.

My only (and obviously tiny) hope is that the local Chrysler rep reacted right away when he received the change-request from my dealer and adjusted the order back then. After all, I asked for this change a week ago and according to my dealer, he called the Chrysler rep last Friday.

But in the end, each version (with or without CD) has its advantages.

So, 14SummitHemi, in case you have a center-console without a player: Is there an additional USB-port?

Thanks for the link!

That explains why only the window-stickers deliver detailed info (and why - as of today - there is no sticker available for my VIN) but the tools that decode a VIN only show the basics.

Yep, u still need the FCA computer to tell you what's associated with your last 8, i.e. the Build Sheet.

Order Number: ********
VIN: **************
Status: Production Scheduled
Status Code: D1 (info)

Time Added: 2014-09-10 07:30:04.553406

So, since my dealer is basically telling me for the last 7 days that he hasn't heard back from the Chrysler Rep AND considering that there is a VIN, does that mean I won't be getting my CD-Player?
Am I missing something or has some people posting taken too many pain pills today and gotten a tad confused (cough cough 14SummitHemi, you're still laid up from surgery right)?

VIN's are assigned WAY WAY WAY before any production occurs. Your vehicle hasn't been built yet...no need to panic.

The "Time Added" is not the MDH of build.

Nope, clear headed....the MDH is when the top meets bottom and VIN is assigned. This hasn't changed over the years and has been confirmed by plant personnel. This is not to b confused with when the VIN is generated in Mr. Computer just when they tag that particular vehicle physically with its VIN.

Current status says "D1" and when I cick on the blue "info", a window opens and shows "D1 - Gateline schedule" in red.
