How long can orders be changed?

I placed my order exactly a week ago and according to Milous' tracking, D1 has not yet been scheduled.

Initially, I was planning on ordering the Rear-Entertainment system but left it out.

Well, it just came to my mind that this also means I won't have a CD-Player which - after careful consideration - actually do want. Although it takes away lots of console-space and isn't that cheap, either, I thought that a CD-Player would be great to fully take advantage of the Summit's 19-speaker HK sound-system.

My dealer is not able to adjust my order but he's telling me he's going to get in contact with the local Chrysler rep and see if he can add the CD-Player to my order.

Does anybody have any experience in regards to changed orders? Since D1 has not yet been scheduled, should a change still be possible?

Thanks for you input!

My understanding is a regional guy can override...dealers can't. So your dealer sounds like he is doing the right thing...you, on the other hand, ADDING a CD player, aren't doing the right thing! LOL

LOL..:D:D

Heck, it's only going to cost me an additional $5/month and being able to play a disc once in a while isn't too bad, either.

I don't mind losing the space in the console but I really want to make sure that I can take advantage of the speaker-system. I'm currently creating my MP3-library by ripping my entire CD-collection (about 1,500 discs). I'm storing my tracks at a 320 kbps bit-rate in order to conserve a pristine sound.

On a low-class Audio-system, I'm probably not going to tell any difference between compressed files and a CD. Now, since the HK is supposed to be quite good, I'll want to make sure I can test that for myself - although at 320 kbps, even the "compressed" .mp3s should sound quite good.

Yes. In this case, unfortunately. ;)

CDs copied to an SD card will sound great.

With the CD option you lose around 70% of the storage in the large lower part and if I remember correctly you also lose the upper storage part too.

Come to thick of it, I haven't used a CD for music in well over 10 years... Wow, time flies.

That's true. However, I'm not the "put everything you can think of in the console"-guy. Pen and paper, charging-wire and perhaps some sweets - that's it. Sunglasses have their own compartment, small umbrella goes into the door and everything else into the glovebox.

At home, I'm using CDs on a regular basis. I'm a bit old-school in that regards - after all, I'm collecting CDs as well.

However, I'm still going to put my music on an SD-card. I already downloaded the software to format a card to FAT32...:D

Apple's iTunes software gives you a bunch of ripping options and customizations.

Definitely get your dealer to throw in one of those Hello Kitty CD holders as I don't think that comes standard with the CD player option.

^^^ They sure do...but they take up even more room!

Sooo...I just checked Jeep's "official" tracking-system with the help of the chrome-extension and this is the current status:

Vehicle: 2015 GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT 4X4
Model: WKJT74
Order Number: ********
VIN: **************
Status: Production Scheduled
Status Code: D1 (info)
Delay Reason: None
Time Added: 2014-09-10 07:30:04.553406

So, since my dealer is basically telling me for the last 7 days that he hasn't heard back from the Chrysler Rep AND considering that there is a VIN, does that mean I won't be getting my CD-Player?

The last eight have nothing to do with options.

They represent the model year, the assembly plant, and the sequence the numbers were assigned.

Actually you have that reversed. The last 8 r the only unique #'s in VIN to that rig. That's why u only input last 8 when checking for Uconnect updates. The last 8 tie back to your specific optioned build.

The powers that be can change any order with a key stroke until actually starting down the line. After that, they need a runner to run down to the line! Let's hope you had the right contact.

Over the last week, I contacted my dealer virtually every second day and asked about my change (or if he heard back from the rep, to be exact). All I got in response every time was "no news yet".

Let's see what he's going to reply to my slightly more urgent e-mail with the VIN and D1-status I sent him this evening. "No news" won't cut it this time - I will demand a clear answer.

^^^ If you are thinking about a back up plan for a CD player, in 2014 Jeep eliminated the hook ups in the center armrest bins (where the CD would go) and instead but the hook ups in the lower center dash console storage bin - the one with the little door that flips up in front of the shifter.

Breaking news++++breaking news++++breaking news+++breaking news++++breaking news++++breaking news++++breaking news++++breaking news++++breaking news+++breaking news

Since I didn't receive a reply to my last e-mail I sent yesterday evening, I decided to pay my local dealer a short visit. The moment I went into the dealership, I spotted my SA. He was standing next to somebody's office and - believe it or not - this guy was on the phone, talking to the regional Chrysler-rep. 20 seconds later, he hung up and............

I GOT THE CD-PLAYER!:D:D:D

They managed to get it in. The guy told me that it would take some time before it would show up in the system but they def. managed to put it in.

My SA told me I need to promise him that I would actually use it...

NOW, I'm happy!:D

Yaaaaaa!

Great to hear, but I also heard the Hello Kitty CD holders were JUST discontinued! LOL

UPDATE:

Well, I guess my dealer screwed up...Milous sent me the build-sheet today and I was able to access my window-sticker. Guess what?

The CD-Player is missing.

Let's see what the dealer has to say.

#79 ·
There are worse things, but it's sad that they told you one thing and the evidence shows something different.

#80 ·
That's exactly the issue and I will let them know that I'm not happy about it.

But I'll find a way to get some compensation for their mistake (free/discounted Accessories etc.).:D

#81 ·
That's the spirit! And all that space for storage you'll have that you were not expecting... heh...heh...

#82 ·
I guess when the medical profession, after being warned, sends someone home with Ebola, we can't expect better from a car salesman. :(

Although I think the CD player was a bad idea, you should be able to get what you want.

Would one of these, plugged into the audio, work? If so, it will take up less room and in time you might decide to migrate to SD.

So, where is the Jeep?

Another Update:

Just got back from the dealer and the sales-manager wasn't too happy about it, either. After all, they promised HIM it would be taken care of.

So in the end, I'm going to get my player - just on a different truck..:D

We agreed on a swap with a local dealer who had what I wanted in their inventory - with a small difference: The Jeep is white:lol:

It looks great in the pictures and videos so I think I will be more than happy with it....

WOW - You must REALLY want a CD player!!!

You are gonna LOVE the white. My first white vehicle too (2014 Summit) and love it. You will NOT be disappointed (except of course at the lack of middle armrest storage due to the CD player! LOL).

Enjoy!

Well, of course..didn't I mention before that I REALLY need this player?:D

Thanks!

My other car is black so I still have a safety-net..;)

To be honest, the pictures and videos I saw about black and white Platinum Summits...I wasn't so sure any more that black was the best choice. The white ones really looked sharp - especially in that video. The Grand Canyon Brown certainly is a great contrast and since it is relatively dark, it wouldn't have been as much of a contrast on the black.

As I said, I'm going to provide you guys with PLENTY of pics once I have it. It's just going to be another month due to a business trip and some other formalities (my trade etc.) I have to take care of.

But hey - that gives me plenty of time to think about which CD in my collection will be given the honor of deflowering my new CD-Player.
