Once you get the VIN, you can go to the following website and enter it in and get some basic info on the vehicles status...
Even better, is joining this site and you get status info from Milous, a member who gets the data direct from Chrysler. It's much more detailed and accurate, and up to date. I think either the VIN or VON are enough; you don't need the VIN.
I found the Chrysler site slow to update (it said it mine was being painted for a few days even after I got info from Milous that it had rolled off the assembly line.) Also, once it leaves the assenbly line you get no more information from it. But Milous provides detailed tracking info as it moves across the country to you dealership. You'll see when it leaves the factory lot, and you get to see when it arrives and leaves various rail and truck yards as it makes its way to you.
