Card caps me at 75. I have to go with a quarter tank to get a full fill up. Spent 65 yesterday though...

Gas is $3.79 for the 'cheap' stuff here in Dallas. I'm able to run errands for my business a couple times a week for which they give me $50 per trip one trip is about 60 miles. This is so far paying for my fuel trips we will see how long that holds up. Kind of ironic that I have to drive my car more to save my own money at the pump

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

If I run it down to under a quarter, I'm in the $70 range, give or take a few bucks. I've been not letting it run as low lately- while I know I use the same amount of fuel anyway, the psychological shock of a $75 fill-up isn't that friendly.

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

Some of these gas prices are really making me jealous. I have not need to fill up this week, but as of right now gas is at least 4.19 a gal in the Chicagoland Area for 87. No one can completely explain to me why we have the highest gas prices in the nation.

Also I fill up out in the burbs. In the city proper it is around 4.49 per gal right now for 87.

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

This is why I have the Costco Amex card. I can take advantage of $0.10 discount per gallon (only at Costco locations) and get 3% cash back when I use the card to purchase fuel including non-Costco gas stations. That really adds up at rebate time - to the tune of a couple hundred $$$.

But of course, you need to live near a Costco to really take advantage of this.

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

Don't hate me, but the last time I filled my Hemi Overland, I paid $1.849/gallon for 89 octane. My local Giant grocery store has a gas station next to the store, and they give points when you buy stuff in the grocery store that are good for money off per gallon of gas. You get 10 cents off for every $100.00 you spend on groceries, plus they are always having specials on various items, so if you buy certain items you get an additional 20, 30 or even 40 cents off, and it's stuff that we would be buying anyway. The last time I bought gas, 89 octane was normally $3.649/gallon, and I had enough points to get $1.80/gallon discount. I usually let the points build up as high as I can before I use them, but they'll expire if you don't use them by the end of a 2 month period, so I usually get one tank of gas every 6 to 8 weeks at a ridiculously low price like this.

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

gasbuddy.com is a great site for tracking gas prices across the nation, it's very helpful if you travel away from your home area much. They have a great Android phone app that makes it easy to find local gas stations and prices, and also to report prices.

As to those $75 limits, my credit card doesn't have a limit, but I have run into stations that have that kind of limit (back when I had an Avalanche w/31 gallon tank and gas was where it is today). I hate having to do two transactions just to be able to fill up. I don't understand what purpose the limit serves, when there's nothing stopping me from simply swiping the card again and starting a second transaction just to complete my fill-up. I try and avoid those stations whenever possible, but that means I have to remember which ones they were!
