Twice that in europe? wow I guess we should consider $1.89 a gallon a bargain here.

You absolutely should. This also explains the high number of small engined vehicles in Europe. There are other factors too such as higher license plate annual fees based on engine displacement (gas guzzler tax) that make owning large displacement vehicles prohibitive.

Cheapest Diesel here in my Area (SLC, Utah) is at Costco $2.18 a gallon last week.

our trip to California we saw prices from $2.49 to $3.99 a gallon.

on the plus side we did 1750 miles averaging 30.3mpg.

They've got to pay for all of that "free" health care somehow. If we go to a single payer plan, it will be much the same here.

It will probably come to an end some day, but even TopTier midgrade is 2.34 at the couple places I fill up at.

By my calculation AUD $1.30 per litre is currently only ~ USD $3.54 per US gallon.

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

Multiply $1.30AUD x 3.7. That gives you $4.81 a US gallon. At 72c exchange rate that's $3.46 USD.

How's that look?

Except you wait longer. And I only pay for MY health care.... Not everyone else's. The difference is I, "still manage just fine" with more money in my pocket, because I'm paying less per gallon, than you are per liter!

I can walk down nearly any street in the country without fear of getting shot because some one robbed a corner store to pay their health bill. Social safety nets help prevent extreme poverty which are known contributing factors to violence and crime. I can play this game all day.
