MPG is great and all... but I can't be the only person who thinks $/mi is a better statistic? How far you can go with a dollar? My ecodiesel for example, I'm hovering at a fuel cost of $0.10/mi. That one statistic includes my mixed driving habits, higher diesel taxes in my state, etc.

Yeah I have thought that also that is really the number that matters. I've been doing about $0.105/mi. on the 5.7 hemi in my daily mixed driving. Can do a lot better than that on highway cruising but those highway cruise trips are fewer and the majority of the miles are daily mixed so that's more the real cost overall

Speaking of RON ratings I see that some mention gas/petrol having an 87 RON rating. Here in Australia min is 91, then 95 and 98.

Is there a different way of rating fuel between countries or does Jeep retune the engines to suit each region?

Just checked my fuelly page... I'm @.11 cents a mile. Got to take in regional to rate that way...I'm in Chicago where were typically about a buck over average thanks to city and county tax

Re: How much are you paying at the pump to fill up?

Is that why its free to go from PA to NJ but you must pay to get out ?

For those who care, RON is Research Octane Number and is a lower stress test than the Motor Octane Number. In the bad old days gas cos used RON because it was 8-10 numbers higher than MON (higher rpm & temp) so sounded better to the sans coulottes.

In their infinite wisdom, the same gov that decreed use of Net HP rather than Gross (about 1/3 less so a Hellcat would probably have been a 1,000 hp car in 1970) also decreed the use of Pump Octane Number which has no basis in science, it is just the average of the RON and the MON & ~ 4 octane numbers under the RON.

So 87 PON is about 91 RON and 93 PON is about 97 RON (+/- 1 or 2 depending)

This is US centric. Elsewhere is whatever your gov decrees/takes orders for.

ps was $1.94 here yesterday, south Florida runs about .10c higher. GA is usually less so we try to fill up north of the border.
