Re: How to cancel factory order without losing deposit

Got some good news - salesman let me know that he contacted Fenkell automotive repair today and got the story. Doors were unlocked on vehicle, and at some point in transit, the spare tire was stolen. So, no damage, which I'm very happy about.

Re: How to cancel factory order without losing deposit

I've ordered quite a few vehicles, and never put down a deposit.

I ordered my Dart, no deposit.

Now that I think about it, I bet the spare was stolen here.

Re: How to cancel factory order without losing deposit

Dealership was open today, so my wife went over to check out the Jeep and take it for a test drive. Met with sales agent, and then manager, both of which assured us everything was 100% and that multiple people looked over the vehicle. We looked it over, found a 3" long scratch, and a small dent. Then during test drive, about 10 minutes in, a warning light comes on. The TPMS sensor for the back right tire shows 0 PSI when tire looked fine.

Back to dealership, sales agent makes note of the issues, gets us inside, then leaves to get sales manager. The manager tries to convince us to buy the car today anyway, saying we'll get something in writing that they'll fix everything. I think that's a bad idea, tell them to let me know when it'll all be fixed, then I'll inspect again, and then I'll sign paperwork if I approve. Sales manager tells me that if vehicle isn't purchased tomorrow, with it being the end of the calendar year, we may lose some rebate, which may cause the negotiated price to increase. I tell the sales manager to send me details of how much in email, then tell him I'm late for something and leave.

So, should I cancel the deal? Then again, it drove great, and the scratch and dent were minor, so should I just trust them to fix those things later?

Your a smart man!Don't ever let a dealer push you into something you might regret. Let them fix it and then inspect it. I would ask why it wasn't perfect when they attempted to deliver it to you. If you are going to loose the rebate the dealer should make it up.It's their fault not yours it's not ready for delivery.

I'd walk away. I'd never fully trust it.

Never force anything that you have doubts about.

I know I will never do it again. If it doesn't fall into my hands, I'm not gonna fight for it.

Ask the dealer if he would accept the scratch and dent on a lease return if the leasor promised to fix it later.

Re: How to cancel factory order without losing deposit

Got in touch with the Director of Sales at the dealership today, this may work out after all. Yesterday, the sales manager talked about having the ding sanded and repainted. That bodywork sounded like it would be in the shop for a while, and would never look as good as new. Director tells me ding will be popped out without doing any damage or paintwork to the vehicle, and fuel filler door with scratch is already replaced. TPMS will be fixed, and car will be cleaned and ready for pickup on Saturday. The negotiated price will stand, and I accept vehicle and sign paperwork only after I inspect the vehicle.

Excellent point, had this in my back pocket in case Director said the same thing the manager did.
