Re: Hurricane heading this way

Thanks for the wishes. I packed my Jeep with all my belongs in the back, put the dog in the backseat and left Fort Lauderdale yesterday at Noon. I'm currently watching this unfold from Clearwater, FL - ready to head to New Orleans if this thing keeps coming west. I never been in a hurricane and I don't want to be. I'm from CA so I really don't want to deal with this.

On another note: so glad I traded in a Honda Accord for a Grand Cherokee. I was averaging 26 (!!!!!) mpg on the highway with all my valuables in the back. Best decision I've ever made in my life - so far....

Just a bit south of you in Bradenton. They just upgraded us from a watch to a warning. Winds picking up but not too bad yet.

Re: Hurricane heading this way

Went for a drive....storm not bad in northern Miami-Dade County with no bad rains and very light rain if at all --- I'm on the barrier island. 7-11 open but almost all others closed and boarded up. Miami area got lucky as eye is moving north of Miami area now it looks like. Been through much worse storms here. Others a few hours up north won't be so fortunate.

That's where the 'rents first settled during the "snowbird" phase between NE PA and Florida, before moving up to central FL for the past 30 years. A HS classmate of mine just moved in near you, too.

You'll probably be a little better off where you are than farther north, even on the left-coast of FL based on the storm track.

The home insurance in Florida and all it covers has got to be kinda nuts as far as pricing. Love traveling to Florida all the time. Stay safe folks

Re: Hurricane heading this way

Miami area should be all in the clear (unless it loops back with strength). Good time to rinse off the balcony, furniture, etc. so at least got that done now. LOL

People further up north need to be safe and off the barrier islands because of storm surge. No storm surges in Miami area but up north predicting large storm surges.

Re: Hurricane heading this way

Looks like my area dodged the bullet also on this one. Just some slight wind gust and rain but not enough to cause any damage!

Re: Hurricane heading this way

Where I live, Hilton Head Island, was nailed hard. A lot of flooding, unbelievable number of fallen trees, significant damage to docks and marinas. Fortunately, structural damage, from pictures and video I've seen, is largely due to trees falling on buildings. Hanging out in TN until Wednesday or Thursday, not looking forward to seeing reality in person. I cannot get definitive reports on my house or my mom's because the roads are blocked by so many huge trees and/or flooded.

Good luck on the return and the steady state of your area. I am in TN this weekend myself but down from the North, so stay safe.

Hopefully you'll have minimal damage to your home. Main thing is you are okay. These storms are just added stress in our lives but I guess that is the sacrifice we make when we live in hurricane prone areas.
