Re: I am getting spooked

2.5 month 4.5k miles later I have no real issues to speak of. Best car I have owned hands down. Well my previous cars were not up to this caliber but they were Jeep Grand Cherokees a 06 and a 99. The fit and finish on this '11 is the same if not better than my dad's MB C63AMG (now only if I could put that engine in this thing I would never stop driving this rig). This car was a dream to drive/ride in for a 1.5k mile road trip and all the features that you can get such as adaptive cruise control makes spending hours of driving effortless. Even around town I cannot stop driving this thing as the comfort level of the seats to the heated steering wheel and all the gizmos and gadgets in-between there is no reason to not be driving this thing. Needless to say when I bought mine I was not even planning on getting one yet was going to wait till the 2012s and maybe a SRT8, but I just go to the dealership with my wife as she needed to get an oil change in her car. Next thing you know I am driving one and a few hours later and a lighter wallet I have this beast. Was too good not to buy right away plus with affiliate pricing it was a no brainer.

But issues happen in cars and happen across all brands and price points, and could be luck of the draw if you get a bad apple. But with the people that do some here with the issues allows us owners to have a heighten sense of awareness when it comes to our rigs to know what to look out for, so it is not all bad. Do what feels right but do not let the issues scare you away from this excellent specimen of a car.

You also need to remember that there are probably less than 1000 owners posting to this site and well under 500 that are active and many report on issues "heard about" and not first hand accounts. I think production on the WK2 is approaching or has exceeded 100,000, that means what you read here is less then 1% of the population and when you factor in the reason people post it makes mountains out of mole hills.
I agree with this comment. This board is very active. I've been on maxima, Infiniti, and Volvo forums for 10 years and this one is the most active thus far.

Re: I am getting spooked

perception is a strange creature. I have been reading these forums for only a couple of weeks (since I submitted my order) but I have been quite overwhelmed by the almost completely positive response that the GC has received here! I was just telling someone yesterday that the more I read here, the better I feel about my decision!

call me... um... what's the opposite of "spooked"?... "exorcised"???

Re: I am getting spooked

I agree that every car on the road today will have its share of problems and Jeep is no different and as long as they are able to fix the problems in an efficient, quality, and professional manner I dont have a problem. However when a problem arises and Jeep has no way to fix it{see shudder problem} that is what deters me from making a 50,000 dollar investment without seeing how this is resolved in the future.

Pull the trigger! I haven't checked, but I imagine Toyota's boards are all lit up with issues and problems with reliability. It is a crap shoot no matter what you buy, but if it's under warranty they will fix it. And besides, it is a Jeep. I own a '99 Wrangler that is way more reliable than the BMW 6 series I sold to make room for my new summit which should ship soon. So go for it and don't look back!

Captain Slow- will you be parking your mini cooper in the back of your GC?

Re: I am getting spooked

Don't worry,

Almost 10,000 miles on my Laredo X 3.6l since Oct. 2010 and just did 4000 miles in a two week span.
It's been great and is shaping up to be the best car I've owned.

Re: I am getting spooked

This is my 4th JGC and after over 3000 miles it has worked flawlessly and is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. Last weekend we had a blizzard in Lake Tahoe area and I had fun on the roads and empty parking lots testing the limits of my Overland with Quadra Drive II. After thorough testing it feels like the system is smoother, quicker responding, and overall better on snow and ice than my previous 2005 model. I think the software as been improved a lot over the past 6 years and it reacts better than before.

I am super pleased with the ride, quietness, comfort, and absence of any issues or problems so far.

Honestly, I've been reading everything available online since last summer and my general feeling is that there are fewer problems being reported online than other vehicles I've researched over the years.

Jeep is really proactive contacting buyers, asking them their opinions, and answering any questions or concerns...

Oh, to be fair the software in the 430N is garbage when it comes to connecting my iPhone 4. There is a an update available but I won't be going to a dealer any time soon to get the fix. I'll wait until my first "free" service which they offered me. :-)

One month and 600 miles here. Zero problems and I love my Overland. V6 and I added skid plates. I got a Trail Rated badge from eBay and put it on. Figured it was ok since I added the skid plates. I have the RER system and upgraded the software myself after reading how on here. Worked flawlessly. IPhone 4 also working with it flawlessly. Now if my Amateur Radio license plate would come in I'd be happy. Kentucky lost mine while transferring from my old Land Rover.

Nope - You have to take the badge off right now. You can't put it on if you just put on skid plates, you have to put tow hooks on. And you have to take your 20" wheels off and put on 18" wheels with real off-road tires, just like Jeep does when they .. put on .... the ...ORG II ....... oh crap ... nevermind.

Re: I am getting spooked

There are very few issues with the WK2 considering it is a complete redesign with some carryover bits. I was almost going to buy a Q7 or Q5 and when I look at the Audi forums, it makes the Jeep look perfect. As has been stated, most of us are happy and I venture to say a majority if us have zero issues, myself included. Not bad for early adopters of a first-year production run.

2,000 miles and love every mile. Minor radio problem but dealer is going to swap radios tomorrow.
