I can only imagine how much this will cost.

So I park my 2015 Overland and notice the reflection of the LED DRL and see a blue/purple led! I got out and sure enough one of the DRL LEDs has turned a purplish blue color!

I'm guessing these LEDs are not owner serviceable and will likely require teh entire headlamp assembly be replaced. Anybody have any experience with this?

Re: I can only imagine how much this will cost.

I've seen a couple of recent posts about this very occurrence and the culprits had their entire headlamp assembly replaced to fix the problem. I just don't think they have any other way to replace the dead area of the LED strip.

Good thing it's under warranty. But, I would hate be out of warranty when this occurs.

I am curious. Has the LED colour changed since new, or was quality control missed by both Jeep and the part manufacturer ?

While LED technology is, in general, very reliable, like any electronic component, there will always be a few units that have a short life. This is one of those cases. Nature of the beast and all that...

The LED's were white, and the defective one changed color over about a week to its current purple/blue color.

Re: I can only imagine how much this will cost.

I can see how this could happen.

"white" LEDs aren't really White LEDs.

They are violet or UV LEDs, which excite a phosphor that emits the "white" light (this is similar to how 'old school' fluorescent lights work; a UV mercury discharge excites the phosphors on the inside of the bulb).

I'm guessing a mechanical failure in one of the LEDs.

Re: I can only imagine how much this will cost.

^^^ Yep. Something caused the remote phosphor coating to fail on that LED causing it to not change from the originally emitted "blue" to white via the phosphor coating.
