Re: "I don't know how to drive in snow/ice, so I blame my GC" Part Deux

Having been stuck myself, in deep snow, I do not consider his case to be 8extreme. However, normal behavior is to selectively slow down each wheel, independently, in an attempt to regain traction and force wheels to spin at the same rate, especially in 4-LOW. That doesn't appear to be the case here. it is entirely possible that his ABS system was malfunctioning, albeit without dashboard warnings.

Driveway-rated ?

Paying attention between 01:30 and 02:35 one should see multiple instances of the right side tires spinning in- and out- of sync, and or at different speeds. I hold that behavior to be the normal, and to represent the car's attempt to regain traction and to transfer torque to wheels with more traction. There wasn't any...but the car tried. I don't see the same in the example above. I also don't know why the driver is being blamed. What was he supposed to do besides perhaps turn the wheel left to right. He tried SNOW mode, he tried 4-LOW.

Re: "I don't know how to drive in snow/ice, so I blame my GC" Part Deux

Greetings,

In this case here, there is no question that 100%+ it is the driver who is at fault. You have to ask yourself seriously, this guy is in a snow belt region and he has no clue what to do.

I can not believe that he does not realize that he has lost traction and all those buttons he is pressing is not going to help. Does he realize that he does not have right sneakers on the JGC at this point. I guess he never read our forum here.
  1. How about the old trick of packing snow under the tire as much as possible instead of being on ice in order to get the tires to bite something.
  2. Or break off some of those branches we see in the background and place the by the tires.
  3. If they have a cat in the house, pour some cat litter by the problem area.
  4. As somebody else said before, try turning the steering wheel.
  5. If all else fails, call AAA for a push.

Then again, if he was not so busy showing off, he could pull out his smartphone (if he has one) and Google, how to get out of my current situation. Google, Bing or whatever search engine will reply:

How To Get Your Car Out Of The Snow | Philadelphia, PA | Automotive Training Center Blog

Or, it could say, get new tires you clown and take a refresher class. You are giving Jeep a bad rep.

Ok, this made my night.

Best for now.

Here is what the description of the Jeep in the original youtube video says about why it is a lemon:

"We ordered this 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4x4 Trail Rated Diesel (~$55,000 - loaded) in February 2014, took delivery mid-March 2014. On the first day the engine light came on, days after that there were more alerts, warnings and malfunctions than we could count. It was in and out of service for months.

Today is December 12, 2014 - we haven't seen this car since September 22, 2014 because it has been in for service at the dealership (it broke down 270 miles from home and we had to leave it there). Yes, it took them nearly 3-months to fix it.

Now, after roughly 5-months total in service and not even 3/4's of a year old (we've barely seen our new car), we finally get it back today and apparently the "fun" never ends. Here is a video of it trying to back-up into it's new parking spot (where we're leaving it until Chrysler takes it back from us).

Yes, this car is a Lemon, but one would think a full-time 4x4 trail-rated SUV would be able to roll over a little bit of snow!

Aside from it's lack of off-road prowess (as demonstrated in this video), beware because this car is an electrical nightmare riddled with problems! DO NOT BUY!"

Re: "I don't know how to drive in snow/ice, so I blame my GC" Part Deux

Greetings,

Besides the fact the owner has poor luck with his JGC, still does not account for the lack of driving skills demonstrated. He has established the fact that GC has been in the shop and he is very unhappy with the 2014 product. Did he do this on purpose just to get even with JEEP? Who knows, as we all know the internet is great in leaving negative reporting.

Before I owned a 4x4, I was in many situation similar to this in a regular car. It all boils down on the person's knowledge and skill in dealing being stuck in snow. I also consider owning the right tires as part of the winter driving skills category.

The correct answer is what?
  1. The GC is a lemon.
  2. The driver is a lemon.
  3. The driver/owner is a clown because he is using this video to get back at Jeep.
  4. All of the above.

Best for now.

They're mad their jeep broke down. I get it. So they made a video pretending to be stuck. That's really all that's going on here....

balderic, thanks for posting the text associated to the video.... I do feel his frustration, owning myself an 2014 ECO which has had it's shares of issues, but this guys is stuck on ICE wearing high heels....and blaming the truck.... IMO, his responsability.

Re: "I don't know how to drive in snow/ice, so I blame my GC" Part Deux

^ Agreed. Thanks for sharing their further info. I missed that in the description.

And I too feel for their actual troubles outside of the situation they were in during the video. There's no reason a new car of any kind should have so many problems out of the owner's control, from the get go.

But I don't understand why if the Jeep was so riddled with electrical problems, he'd continue to rely solely on the computer and button doo-dads to help his situation. As said, when someone lives in the snow belt you'd imagine they have a bit more experience in the snow/ice beyond pushing buttons.

^^ looks like he was backed up up to a curb or lip on the driveway as well.

I'm guessing he'd been sitting there for quite a while spinning his tires making nice little ice patches instead of just rolling forward to get some momentum to get over that hump.

Re: "I don't know how to drive in snow/ice, so I blame my GC" Part Deux

My friend that used to live in Montana made a good point with a technique he used many times.

"All he would've had to do was pull out his floor mat and stick it under one of the front tires to gain just a little bit of traction and get him moving."

Improvised Maxtrax. Better than nothing.
