Fact is whenever you drive in water there is a chance of hydro-lock? And isn't it bad for him trying to start it when it stalled?

Hydro-lock can only happen when the engine ingests water. Just driving through water doesn't mean that you'll hydro-lock your engine. If you use good judgment and a little common sense, you can drive through water without any ill effects.

As far as him trying to start the engine, yeah, the guy was obviously clueless. You should never try to start your engine after it stalled during a water crossing like the one he tried. He should have had someone pull him out and then he could have removed his spark plugs and turned the motor over to pump the water out of the cylinders.

To the best of my knowledge the Acura is mid-engine. The engine as well as all related intake apparatus are behind the driver, not in the front. I would think even though the front is under water the intake is still above it or it wouldn't have made it.

No water? Your not off roading if you are not crossing or driving through water.

I think this is probably what happened to this jeep driver.

http://www.jk-forum.com/archive/index.php/t-41953.html

Yes I was reminiscing over my old 5.9L tonight......watching this video from MW video they take the Mercedes and Jeep through a puddle and shoots water WAY over the roof, LOL

Look at the last minute of the video 9-10minutes.

Yeah, that's true, but it's still amazing that the car could go through that much water. It's a low-slung sports car that probably comes halfway up to the door on a Jeep. I'm sure the interior took on a bunch of water, as well as the "trunk" in the front.

If you drive into a pool of water and the water is able to bounce pass your hood then your driving too fast. The driver was driving too fast imo

I had a 95 accord that went through water passed the hood and shutoff in the middle and I was still able to turn it back on like 3 minutes later and drive out and it ran with no problem until i got rid of it.
