Was trying to put the $70k price tag into perspective. That's CTS-V money, and when introduced you could get a GT-R for that.

There's no doubt the SRT8 is a great product, but they need to get real with their pricing. $70k is just a massive amount of money for this vehicle, especially considering the WK1 SRT8 sold for under $50k.

As a sports car, I would expect the numbers and performance to be top-notch, I can't argue that point. What's impressive about the Jeep is how good its numbers are considering that it is a 5,000 LB SUV. And for the price the X5's go for, BMW engineers should be embarrassed at its reliability record. Not sure what the UAW has to do with anything?

It's just too slow and cumbersome to operate the controls via a joystick. A touch screen, IMO, is much faster and more intuitive to use, especially when it's logically located closer to the driver. I think the Jeep's new RA4 system and TFT display blows away what's on the X5's.

$60-65k or less would be more accurate for the going rate. One could argue that the X5 and other similar vehicles are overpriced as well.

KBB's take on the 2013 X5:
You May Not Like This Car If...The BMW X5's aggressive ride and handling come with a price, namely the forfeiture of a smooth ride. You can find the same electrifying performance specs from the newly-released Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and a more luxurious ride from Audi's Q7.

Re: I was pretty much set on a '14 summit...but now the SRT wont get out of my head

*shrug* I actually like the giant air intakes on the front of the X5M. They're for intercoolers, so they're functional, and truthfully I think they look sporty and clean.

I would be fine with saying the Germans are overpriced too. Especially when you look at them now in the context of the WK2. I bought my Overland because it was better than the Germans, price didn't even factor in, so when you then add in that they're also significantly more expensive, there's an issue for them. That said, I think that's sort of their shtick, is being expensive so that some of the people that buy them can feel awesome about how they bought a much more expensive car than someone else and so must be better than them.

Touchscreens are great, but require you to reach up to the screen. iDrive lets you keep your hand resting on the center console. More cumbersome, maybe, it requires you to have more menus to do things that you could just touch on the screen. Truth be told though, all automakers are MASSIVELY behind the curve on interfaces. They should just contract to Google to design their in car electronics, the interface you buy on a $400 tablet is decades better than the one in a $40k+ vehicle. That's just shameful.

As far as the UAW, some of us are still upset that they got our money. Some of us are still upset that they put 2 companies into bankruptcy, and were rewarded with ownership stakes in said companies. Some of us believe that you shouldn't have to join a union to have a job somewhere. Some of us would rather their money not go to supporting a corrupt group of crooks like the UAW.

To me, a vehicle not being built by the UAW is a MASSIVE bonus, and I'm not the only one who feels this way.

$70k+ is what the MSRP for a loaded SRT8 will be. Will some pay less? Sure, but some will also pay more to dealers that will tack on market adjustment fees.

man now I'm liking the 3.0 diesel

I can't wait for reviews to come out. Any idea when review units will be available so I can make a better choice?

Re: I was pretty much set on a '14 summit...but now the SRT wont get out of my head

I totally agree with the UAW sentiment, this union almost single handedly brought down 2 great american corporations and have been handed huge equity stakes while many shareholders equity was wiped out. Yes the cars Chrysler and GM were building were by and large Junk for a long time, but all the cost cutting had to be done to pay inflated union wages/benefits. The last straw for a lot of people was when the UAW fought for reinstatement for those UAW Chrysler employees (from the Grand Cherokee Factory) who were caught drinking and smoking pot on their lunch break.
I love the new Grand Cherokee and would love to purchase one, but I also do not want to support this parasitic organization.

I think some seat time in each will he your best bet...but to be honest I bought the jgc on paper initially...then drove it and was impressed. Have since driven or ridden in some of the other brands tossed around in the thread and have no regrets on my purchase.

LMAO, thats a totally ridiculous statement, as a CTS-V or a GT-R are completely different types of vehicles than a GC SRT.

If you are considering a CTS-V, IMHO looking at the Jeep SRT is ridiculous. Thats like saying a BMW 7 series is a ripoff because you can buy a 911 for the same money.

That is the biggest load for bullshit I've seen on this site. Poor business choices led to gm and Chrysler demise. Tell me this, if the UAW is to blame why didnt ford take the hit along with the rest? Ford got rid of poor selling brands/cars and started to build cars that Americans wanted to buy along with keeping QC on par with Toyota's and hondas while gm and Chrysler still was unwilling to change. You can not blame the person on the line making $28 per hour for that however you can blame the person at HQ making millions of dollars per year. 90% of the people blaming the unions for everything don't even know how one works.....

Re: I was pretty much set on a '14 summit...but now the SRT wont get out of my head

I'm UAW.

I do not make $28/hr or anything close to it. If I don't work, I don't get paid.

How is this the UAW's fault?

BTW: I still blame Daimler for Chrysler's problems.

I have no data to back this up but I suspect that the people who blame the unions for GM and Chrysler's problems are also the ones who blame the CRA for the housing/financial crisis. They're wrong on both counts.
