Ice Damage - Ouch

I Follow this guy on Youtube and he posted this video up yesterday. I'm assuming snow melted into the trim piece and then froze up again overnight or something (when frozen, it expands).

In the very long video, he mentions that this isn't supposed to happen which I agree with. Seems like a design flaw. My trim piece is slowly coming off too. Therefore should be covered by extended warranty as a repair. Delearship is saying to contact insurance company - Damage by mother nature.

I can see both ways of reasoning, but at the end of the day the design flaw probably caused this in the first place.

What do you guys think?

Good stuff starts at 22mins in.

Re: Ice Damage - Ouch

Another shorter video of him trying to remove the ice. Better quality video as well

I probably would have tried to take the ice piece out as well (after the dealership saw and I took pics), but I wouldn't force it like he was. It would at the point be easier to pour hot water and let it melt away.

No chance some water behind there expanded that much. That ice got in there some other way.

I agree looks like he side swiped a snow bank when backing up and forced it in there.

NOT someone you'd want to have a beer with that's for sure. Could barely stand listening to the whining. Something more was going on there. It's a trim piece, added just like every other trim piece on every other vehicle. Chill out bud...first world problem. Once the ice is out the trim piece will lay back down until you get it into the dealership to reattach it.

When liquid water is cooled, it contracts like one would expect until a temperature of approximately 4 degrees Celsius is reached. After that, it expands slightly until it reaches the freezing point, and then when it freezes it expands by approximately 9%. This guy is why people with genuine warranty claims have issues.

Re: Ice Damage - Ouch

I've never had any ice wedged between the wheel well and the trim. As others noted, he must have backed into it somehow. Just driving down the road won't get snow or ice up there.

I agree, this guy whines and talks way too much. Sounds like he doesn't care about anyone's opinion, only his own. In that hour long video I posted, he goes inside to the finance manager or something that to complain because service manager was not in. I would not want to be friends, neighbors or even have him close to me. I'll get extremely irritated. The most idiotic thing he was doing was breaking off the ice instead of pulling it out, clearly flexing all the body components.

Ice Damage - Ouch

I dunno man there's literally zero damage to the fender flare not a single scratch. If you hit a snow bank hard enough to wedge that in to there it would have signs of damage but it doesn't.

And with the insane frozen rain we got up here in the northeast I totally believe this guy and could see frozen water getting behind there. The base of the flare toward the skirt is perfectly attached if he hit a snow bank that would have been the first part to break loose. We had some insane weather where it literally sleeted for 2 days straight.

Not sure why you guys don't believe this when people's are just falling off and coming loose without ice or snow involved at all...
