Unfortunately, I'm gonna agree with you.

The Mercedes ML series is somewhat close, but the only ones we ran into when shopping recently were the Land Rover and Range Rover.

There are off-road vehicles, where the 4Runner isn't that shabby for that, but it isn't within a hundred miles of an Overland for zoot/bling.

The rest are mall crawlers, as long as the snowbanks aren't too deep.

The Ford Explorer wasn't really in the same class as the older GC, although the ZJ model forced Ford to bling them up just a bit. The Mitsu Montero Sport was also a step down in luxo, possibly a bit more than the Ford, more like a 4Runner or PathFinder.

Fun little "features" and all, the GC is one heck of a vehicle for the money, particularly in the higher priced models.

THIS is SO true AND Jeep knows this. Which is why they can be so lax when it comes to QC. They are the only game in town and it shows. If I recall, the Tiguan used to be a tough truck, comparable, but VW watered it down somewhat.

No, the Touareg was the tough one, as were some of the early Cayennes.
The VW once had a really really nice V10 diesel, but apparently it was a tad much for the drive train to handle--either that or they needed the V10's for putting in the LeMans racing diesel Audi. By the time the Tiguan came out, the Touareg was just a nice mall crawler.

Oh right, the Tiguan is the smaller one that my girlfriend wants LOL....I remember the earlier Cayenne's, they were supposedly mountain goats....

I always wanted a V10 Touareg..They were pretty rare and expensive, especially the maintenance from what i had read.

It's hard to beat the JGC when compared to the few true 4x4 trucks out there. Especially when you add a v8, price goes up big time. The Range rover sport starts at 80k with the supercharged v8! Only others that can compare is the Lexus GX and the Mercedes G wagen. The 4Runner is the closest price wise, but even the latest one is outdated when you compare it to what the JGC has to offer.

My fiancee has an 08' Range Rover Sport HSE, I honesty don't like it and prefer my Jeep over it any day. Sure the fit and finish of the interior is better quality, as it should be for what they cost. The jeep just drives and handles better, but its probably not fair to compare an 08' to a 14'. To top it off, her Range Rover has 43k miles and recently needed $6k in repairs! Thankfully it was covered under the extended warranty but once its out of warranty its gone.

The Mall Crawler and Soccer Mom crowd have overwhelmed the market. The GC is the only "Gentlemen's SUV" left that can actually do anything.

Of course, if Ford brought over the new Ranger, I would have given it at least a look over. F-150 is a great truck, just too big.
Land Rover. .....

And I went from a ranger to an f150.....hated them, thot they were too big.....but I love it and it actually doesn't even feel that big at all. Supercrew and 5.5 bed

On topic....that bronco looks cool but I'd never buy it. The red ever St pic posted here looks pretty decent. Prefer the GC in looks tho

The Lexus GX (the 470 was replaced with the 460 in 2010) is a Land Cruiser Prado, not a Hilux. The Hilux is a pickup truck.

I agree...not many competitors out there for the GC anymore. That's why I would up with another one despite my issues.

Re: If Ford ever did this, Jeep would be forced to up their QC

If another car manufacturer offered an SUV comparable to the GC...and I mean truly a match from a features/capabilities/pricing standpoint, I believe Jeep would be forced to be more proactive, helpful etc. when it came to how they handled issues, such as this axle fiasco.....even as far as the loaner situation, which to me should be mandatory/no questions asked for owners who are experiencing this issue....or the fact that they won't replace both sides at one time, even though they are well aware that BOTH will fail at some point....I mean, what the hell is that?????.....it is beyond the pale.......the problem is, even if you wanted no parts of the GC, what do you move into that is even close to being comparable??? An Explorer?? So owners are almost forced to put up with myriad issues/bugs AND (what I consider) second-rate treatment....

That being said, I cannot even comprehend owners having their GC's for maybe a day or two, some having only a few miles on the clock, before being forced to go back to the dealer to have this very serious issue resolved....I have never heard of anything like this before....SURE, there is always the potential for issues with a new car, no manufacturer is totally immune....but has anyone ever seen anything this potentially catastrophic happening to so many literally brand new vehicles?????? I think one poster literally had the GC for a day before it had to go back to the dealer...I would be SEETHING right now if it were me....SEETHING......I have been purchasing new cars since 1995 and have never experienced anything like this......even my 2006 SRT8 which was a true piece of crap didn't have issues like this....and, this kind of thing has happened in the past, which makes this even more disconcerting...
