I will factor in some "what ifs" on certain decisions but I try to keep them in perspective. And I rarely if ever take media hysteria into account.
As to the question of yea or nay on a WK2, I would still have purchased mine, although it would be fair for someone to say that now that it is a fait accompli, I have an incentive to validate my decision.
It's a simple matter of economics on one level: Can you afford to spend more for gas if the prices go up? Do you need a vehicle like this regardless of the cost to own it? (if the answer is yes, then the WK2 offers a solid value proposition at its price point compared to others in its class, although long term reliability is still TBD). This dilemma is similar to that caused by the RER/RHR uncertainty...when do you put present needs/desires ahead of future possibilities which you have no control over? You could wait forever.
