Wait 12 months and get the diesel it's faster than the V8 and average 8.1 ltr/km which im guessing is somewhere around 25mpg.
Diesel fuel is more expensive here. I don't want to deal with trying to find the gas stations that sell diesel. Don't want the smell of diesel around me. And I just bought a new 2012 WK2 Hemi yesterday. No more waiting for me!!

thanks for the response...I am close to buying, just can't decide and really haven't driven either enough to have much of an opinion, although I plan to soon.

don't take our words for it. you need to drive them to see the differences.

My wife and I both felt hte 6 was way down on power and my other car is a 4 banger Fusion (which is slow) and the Jeep felt slower.

just don't drive the Hemi first or you won't even get a chance to drive the v6.

Re: If money was no object...

If you are getting a 4x4 overland with all the options and like "that thing got a hemmi?" commercials then the Hemmi is for you. I mean the original post was if money wasnt an option,, well if money isnt an option get an SRT8. To most of us in this economy money is an option and sometimes if you give in one area you get in another. I agree if you add all the weight of a loaded out overland with every bell and whistle then it might not be as peppy without the HEMMI. If money wasnt an option I would say screw the 5.7, get the SRT8, the regular Hemmi is a dog compared to the SRT8. There is always a step up that costs more. Maybe one day in your life money will matter and feeding that big motor or changing out the 16 spark plugs will take other options in life away. Until then drive it like you stole it!

I've never driven the V8 and don't feel the V6 is underpowered at all with daily driving.

Americans have this aversion to diesels which I think is really a shame. Sure they are different in some ways, but to drive these modern diesels I think you'd be hard pressed to know the difference in normal driving. You won't smell it unless you have a fuel leak. Sure its a little more, but we're talking about a JGC that gets 35MPG here. Thats a pretty incredible thing.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the 5.7 is dog next to the 6.1 SRT8. I have driven the 2012 SRT8 and maybe it was just for a quick WOT but It wouldn't make me say the 5.7 is a dog. I love the new SRT8, I like it so much that it swayed to want to buy one. But the difference between the Wk 5.7 and the WK2 SRT8 is like comparing a Jeep to a Porsche. You just can't do it.

I hate the verbiage "if money wasn't an option." I don't care of you rich or poor money is always an option. I for one like to live as if I won't be around tomorrow. My kids and family come first but I won't sweet the small stuff. You want the v8, buy it and don't look back.

Hemi grand cherokee 0-60 6.9 seconds
Pentastar grand cherokee 0-60 8 seconds
SRT8 grand cherokee 4.5 seconds

If a pentastar is a dog compared to the Hemi with a difference of 1.1 seconds then what is a SRT8 compared to a Hemi with a difference of 2.4 seconds?

Is 1.1 seconds worth all this hubub? Get over it. Put the HD brakes on the 3.6 and it would be rated with the same towing capacity.

I am not trying to debate that 6.1 has more HP, is faster etc... I am saying you can't compare the WK and the SRT8. They are 2 different animals. If debating between a v6 and a v8 in a wk you don't have the 6.1 option.

Re: If money was no object...

Larger engine, bigger brakes, and different transmission, well actually it is kinda like comparing the V6 to the Hemmi. And your right there isn't a 6.1 option but there is a 6.4 option. I'm just stating facts for the people that think there is some huge performance difference between the Hemmi and the Pentastar, If you get the Hemmi its not the big advantage people are making it out to be, your not getting a hot rod. I'm the one person I guess that had the Hemmi and thought the V6 was a better choice. I couldn't find any advantages, I just saw heftier maintenance bills (16 spark plugs that needed to be changed in half the time of the v6) down the road and more fuel costs.

Re: If money was no object...

I have the Hemi in my WK. in town with no AC and driving like my grandma I get about 13. when I dig up my 16 year old self, and the wife isn't around, I get around 10 sometimes less.... highway at around 68-70mph with cruise control I get close to 20 every time, which then drops to around 18 as the tank gets low. I don't really think its all that different from the v6 (from what I've read)

once you come to terms with the fact that you will never get decent mileage with the Hemi, (although I consider highway mileage somewhat decent for the engine) you will have a smile every time you enter that onramp and give her all she's got.
