I still have my 1995 Jeep Orvis edition,I was planning to replace it with a brand new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee summit edition right here in Canada, but I bought a brand new diamond white, bright metallic Mercedes Benz e class 550 cabriolet here in Canada, cost $97,000 got 3% discount got it for $94,000 fully loaded, got the special interior designo classic red for extra $2,400.

I also bought personal license plate, stating the stock symbol that paid for the car,it will take 4 months to come from Germany, and I will post pictures of my old 1995 jeep and my brand new Mercedes Benz,I order it in January.

Re: If You Cancel a Summit Order What Would You Buy?

When I was shopping around I was really into the new Toyota 4Runner. The Platinum (or whatever the top model is) is super nice. I drove one in white with the beige interior and it was awesome. Seats were really comfortable and even the V6 had lots of juice. The 4 Runner is defiantly as capable off road as the Jeep, it def has a little (very little) harsher ride tho. Obviously the interior did not really wow me as much as the Jeep but for the same money its a really nice alternative. One added plus is that its a truck based vehicle.....a plus only if u have to take it off-road a lot or plan to mod it later down the road, which I don't think is the case anyway.

Re: If You Cancel a Summit Order What Would You Buy?

I cancelled my order for my Overland and am now looking at getting myself a used 07/08 Acura TL-S 6spd manual. I owned one before but in automatic and loved it. Now looking at the manual trans one which would be fun. I always thought the 3rd gen TL was the best sedan design ever. They are good on gas, kinda quick, FWD so it was great in the winter, and will cost half what the new Overland does. I dont even think im really an SUV kinda guy anyway so hopefully this is the right choice :-)

While waiting for my Summit I test drove the following (and bought the QX):

BMW X5 5.0
Cayenne S
Audi Q7
Infiniti QX56

Optioned the way I wanted they all could be bought for around $75K. Personally, I felt the following:

BMW X5 5.0 - Great road car with acceptable snow performance but more of a crossover than a SUV. I already have sports cars so the X5 seemed pointless for me.

Cayenne S - Great SUV when fitted with all the performance packages, but a bit small for my needs. I think if I only had one car and needed an SUV, this might have been my best choice.

Audi Q7 TDI - Too slow, small inside and the interior aesthetics were nice in materials but very boring in design. I used to have the 2006 A6 4.2 and the Q7 did nothing to make me believe I shoould look at Audis again.

Inifniti QX56 - Turned out to be the perfect SUV for me. It has great off road capabilities, it is refined on road with plenty of power, 8500 lb towing capacity, spacious interior oozes quality and luxury, and the latest gadgetry... the 360 camera is great for tight parking. Exterior design may not speak to everyone, but anyone looking for a true SUV with incredible luxury should check one out. It is nothing like the Armada based QXs of old. Also, I have been averaging 17 mpg and the thing weighs 6000lbs and has 410 hp and 420 lb/ft torque.

I'd imagine it wouldn't take very long to put that many miles on in that car.

Yes, I often found myself waking up in the middle of the night and driving around in pajamas just for the fun factor.

Good information and sorry for the earlier backhanded slap at the QX as it appears that I was working from an old reputation. With that said, did you have to option it out with skids, tow hooks, and appropriate tires to make it suitable (assuming you care about off-roading?)

It seems like you were willing and able to pay the uplift in price and in return you got:

1) Much better availability
2) Almost certainly a better dealer experience

I guess in the end you get what you pay for. Those of us who recognized the Overland as a relative bargain (given that Jeep had improved so much) are dealing with the fact that neither Chrysler nor their dealer network are (currently) positioned for the higher-end buyer who rightly expects a premium experience for his coin.

So we save some $$, but we wait and put up with goofball dealers.
