Agreed, that's what makes the WK2 such a unique vehicle in this segment and why I traded out of a Touareg for my Overland. NOTHING has the capabilities and luxury of the Overland for it's price.

If you gotta have a specific JGC config and color - buy some patience. Small wait for a big item.

If you are a bit more flexible - buy one off the lot within a 4 state radius of home. Use the savings relative to alternative SUV's to mod to your heart's content.

If you buy something else - hope you have the extra $20K+ to do so or have no need for OR trail manners.

Yes, the Overland is defintely a bargain and a true SUV with virtually no competitor in its price range. I had to go way out of its price range to find something that I thought was significantly better. Even though I ended up cancelling my V8 Summit order, I have still been thinking about getting a V6 Overland as a company car, where something a little more modest is appropriate.

Re: If You Cancel a Summit Order What Would You Buy?

I have a Summit coming ( just went D1 ) and i look forward to it.
I, of course, considered other vehicles including many noted on this thread as well as another, not mentioned, I believe, which is the Lincoln MKX.
I realize that the Jeep and Lincoln are different animals but, with AWD, lots of tech toys, a beautiful interior ( esp. with Canyon imho ) and good lease and buy deals, I considered the Lincoln near the top of my list. Also, I have no plans for off-roading and I try to buy American when I can.
Thoughts?

Re: If You Cancel a Summit Order What Would You Buy?

I'd take a look at the new X3 or the X5 35d (diesel).

The diesel has gotten good reviews and gets good mileage for an SUV. I believe real world mileage is 24-26 on the highway and 19-21 in the city. It's got 425 ft.lbs of torque and does 0-60 in the mid sixes. It comes with an 8 speed trans too!

I was thinking of trading our 07 X5 4.8i for an Overland, but couldn't come across the right deal! I guess patience is a virtue!

I'll give credit, the New JGC's are Nice, but you guys talk about how good of a bargain the Summits/Overlands are, but by the time you get them, the 2012's will be able to be ordered and you paid a premium for a truck that is a model year old! That's not such a good deal to me! Just my opinion and not trying to start anything!

Re: If You Cancel a Summit Order What Would You Buy?

Has anyone looked at or test driven a base 2011 Porsche Cayenne with automatic transmission? Does the base engine have enough power? I read the 2011 Porsche Cayenne is 500 pounds lighter than the 2010 version. Also, does the base version have decent enough standard equipment that I might be happy with it as a replacement for a 2005 Jeep GC 4.7 L V8?

edit: I started adding options I wanted and ended up with an MSRP of $68,725 and an average price paid in my area with these options of $66k ( http://www.edmunds.com/porsche/cayen...trim=tiptronic ) and that's still without a V8 engine.

I guess my next vehicle will still be a 5.7 L V8 Jeep GC Overland. Getting worried about build quality with all of the problems with the 2011 Jeep GC I've been reading about on this forum though.

Most people don't go in search of a message board to post about how wonderful their new car is. Forums like this one are mostly enthusiasts (who nitpick every little thing) or people who are looking for solutions to a problem.

Assuming all the issues posted here will happen to you is like looking at all the diseases that present with 'headache' on WebMD and assuming you have them all.

Relax.

Re: If You Cancel a Summit Order What Would You Buy?

I bought a 2005 WK 4.7 L V8 new and the sunroof leaked and it stalled out after a cold start and then at the first stoplight (on numerous occassions). Those are terrible issues on a new vehicle. I also read how several people with the 5.7 L Hemi V8 on 2005 - 2010 WKs had the "shudder" problem when accelerating around 45 mph or so and my uncle has a Durango Hemi that had a similar "shudder". Jeep and the dealer were both terrible to get responses from and to get things fixed without several trips in and countless dismissals until I start having to threaten certain actions if they don't make things right. I probably shouldn't even consider another Jeep Grand Cherokee with all the troubles from Chrysler LLC I've dealt with.

Six years later and an all new model and still a "shudder" problem on several vehicles is not a good sign.

Deep breath.
