Re: If you were to give up your GC today, what would you get?

If I didn't have this Jeep, I'd likely have a new Explorer. I would have swapped out my old one for a new one. I didn't because the new Explorer is nowhere near as capable as the JGC is. In fact, it's likely capable enough to get you in to trouble and not out of it.

But I would have simply conceded that point and not pressed it. I actually like the look of the new Explorer, and was disappointed (like many Explorer owners) by what it has become.

But I get to have a JGC. If I lost this one, I'd get another, perhaps add the tech package to get the auto cruise control bits. Even if I had the money, I wouldn't move up. They not as rounded a vehicle as the JGC, focused more on the luxury bits. Yea, they have the drive train, but off the show room floor, the models can't to what a Limited OR-2 can do, much less a Trailhawk which is no more than a Limited with rock rails. Of course the others can be accessorized, but they downplay it more than anything. "Oh, yea, and there's that 4WD stuff we have. Can I interest you in a leather sun roof?" Do any of them drag their factory vehicles over the Sierra Nevada? Seems all fire roads and wintery parking lots to me.

So, yea, it's a matter of attitude also. The "Trail Rated" marketing actually means something. Only Jeep takes this part of the market at all seriously in the US. Only the JGC has the right balance of gee gaws and hard metal parts, frankly. They put rock rails on their mini-ute for crying out loud.

Re: If you were to give up your GC today, what would you get?

Ive been doing some shopping around and even looking at future models that will be coming out. Im all over the map so dont be surprised at this list:

1) 2015 Audi Q5
2) 2015 Lexus NX
3) 2015 Hyundai Genesis
4) 2015 Acura TLX

Even after looking at all these cars I still love the way the GC looks and the capability. Mine has given me a lot of problems. Mainly electrical and the techy bits, but if I were to do it again Id probably get another Limited with the Lux II package (gotta love those LEDS).

This is my 3rd GC and I just cant seem to stray away from them!

Another Subaru Outback or an Acura MDX. One of my brothers has a loaded Explorer, it is a great vehicle, and another one has the Range Rover, it spends more time with the dealer than it does with him. No thanks.

Re: If you were to give up your GC today, what would you get?

I'll simply move on to my 6th GC. Outside of my rattle filled Accord it's the only vehicle I've been driving since 93.

I know the vehicle, I understand its good and bad points and it still has the best 4WD system I've ever driven in snow. It suits my needs perfectly.

I have a very good relationship with my dealer... from the owner right down to their lowliest tech. I don't have the desire (or need) to learn the peculiarities of a different vehicle or how piss-poor that vehicle's dealer service department could/would be.

2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T.

I know...apples & oranges. Still, I really like the Hyundai. And the seats are a LOT more comfortable than my Summit.
