Impressions - 1 month in

I have had my 2012 GC Laredo hemi for just over a month now. I traded a 2011 JKUR for something more comfortable for commuting as well as road trips and also I needed something for towing.

During the last month I have driven from DC to Montreal in 3 days (both up and back in snow storms), went skiing, added new tires (wrangler duratracs), and changed the oil to mobil 1. I absolutely love this thing. It is so much more comfortable than my JKUR and it's hella fast (relatively) with the hemi. I can't stop driving it. I think I put 5,000 miles on it during the month of February. The hemi has tons of power and that v8 sounds amazing, even through stock exhaust. The first thing I did when I bought it was start looking at mods for it but I have since come down from that cloud for the time being.

A few notes:
- even though the manual says use midgrade fuel, the hemi really loves the premium fuel so I have been using that
- the GC gets the same mileage as my JKUR once did
- I had an issue where the jeep was confused and wouldn't start, it would crank several times but wouldn't start. I was able to get it to start by opening the door and resetting it with lock/unlock. It has started perfectly ever since
- the MDS freaked me out the first week, I thought something was wrong before I started doing research
- I was surprised to find out that my 2012 has the flipper glass, very handy for access to the cargo area
- I am not sure if the trans is slipping or not but when I depress the gas pedal it revs a hair and then settles in to the correct RPM. I still have some of the factory warranty left so if it continues I will stop by a dealer for a diagnosis

So overall the GC has been great and I can't wait to see what the future brings with this thing. Come summer time I will be using it for towing and I will have more to report at that time.

Anyone who is on the fence about getting a GC, I highly recommend it. Although I didn't feel comfortable dropping 40K+ on a new one (I really wanted a diesel) I love my 2012 and actually prefer it because it isn't as technological as the newer ones. I can actually replace this head unit with something else if I wanted to, for example.

Re: Impressions - 1 month in

I got my 2013 JGC Overland a little over a month ago and I concur with just about everything you posted. No, it's not as quick as my 2001 F150 SVT Lightning(traded in on the Jeep) with its supercharged 5.4L(I also added a few performance mods.) but its 5.7L Hemi is no slouch either. I love the 6-speed auto with its ability to be manually shifted. I shift it all the time even though I think it drives my wife a tad crazy. When the MDS starts annoying me, I tap it into '6'. Love the locked fuel door.

I bemoaned the fact that it only had the capability to hold only one CD until I found out I can load all the CDs I want onto the HDD. Very neat. The interior is opulent compared to the F150 and my wife's 2007 Murano.

A few nits; a little more difficult to enter and exit due to its height though the extra wide opening doors are a plus, the body pillars are too wide, interfering with side and rear views. I'll have to pay a little extra when it becomes time to replace the battery because it's too heavy and unwieldy for my 75 year old body. Still learning how to use the multi-light light switch. The Uconnect feature is not intuitive, at least for me.

Overall, this is an awesome vehicle.

Dan
