I bought a new Jeep. We want to use it as a toad behind or RV, We have a 2005 Fleetwood Jamboree 26Q, I know the Jeep is almost at the limits for the jamboree.
I would like to install a good tow bar and a good base plate. My question is which one would you recommend for use on our 2016 Jeep?
I've always used Blue Ox towing baseplates with the removable arms and Blue Ox tow bars. Never had a problem. I had one on my '95 Geo Tracker. Then I bought an '04 Jeep Liberty and put a Blue Ox baseplate on it. Now I have an '11 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Blue Ox baseplates. I guess Roadmaster plates and bars are good too but since I started with Blue Ox and have never had a problem I'll stick with them. I usually get my stuff from www.etrailer.com .
I have a '13 GC with the Roadmaster EZ Twistlock brackets. When not towing, you can remove them to clean up the front end. I also use a Roadmaster Blackhawk towbar.
I've been reading some other threads about problems with wobble on 2016+ "WK2" Grand Cherokee. You may want to look into that; hopefully a fix will come along as it did for the wobble problem on the "KL" Cherokee a few years back..
Assuming there's a fix to the above there are two other things I'd mention.
- Your GC must have the 2-speed 4WD, which is capable of being put into neutral in order to be 'flat towed'.
- There are three major manufacturers of baseplates, BlueOx, Roadmaster, and Demco; it is advisable to read all the installation instructions and reviews.comments on forums before making a choice.,, whether you plan to do the install yourself or not.
