Installing an Uconnect update from a USB..

stick.

I just downloaded the 13.48.3 from this website (thanks for that, BTW), and will extract it to an USB stick later, but after that how do I install that into the car?

Obviously, the stick has to be inserted into the USB port under the radio, but what else? Should the ignition be "off" or "on?" Can the ignition be left on during the process?

Pretty much I need the specific directions for installing.

I "searched" for the directions, but couldn't find anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ignition needs to be "on". Some have done the update with the Jeep running. Just follow the on screen prompt. May take 10 or 15 minutes.

Ignition on and make sure the usb is formatted to Fat32 not NTFS. The uconnect will not read the usb otherwise. Hope this helps.

If you go back to where you downloaded it there are step by step instructions.

Re: Installing an Uconnect update from a USB..

Not sure what you meant by "Extract it" but just put the ISO file on the USB. Don't extract the files in the ISO. Tried that, doesn't work so hot

Re: Installing an Uconnect update from a USB..

and keep in mind if you see any funny business it might take up for 24hrs for everything to reinitialize, etc. If something still seems off after 24hrs doing a reinstall has helped.

Re: Installing an Uconnect update from a USB..

And make sure the ONLY file on the stick is swdl.iso

Pull all sd cards, aux connects, then do not press the brake since you don't want the engine running, but push da button till the run light comes on.
Stick the USB in the slot.
READ the screen prompts.

For more detailed instructions, upgrade to a premium membership and go into the vip section.

The latest update says with engine running.

Highly recommended (by me) if it's cold out, just to keep warm.

Enough members have done it with engine running and engine off to determine it doesn't matter.

The engine running just avoids your battery going dead during the update which could render the vehicle inop.

Re: Installing an Uconnect update from a USB..

Thanks guys! Everything worked as advertised.

I downloaded the file from the VIP site, then extracted the compressed file to the USB stick. Last night with the ignition in the "ACC" mode, I inserted the USB stick into the slot below the radio.

After telling it to continue after the first prompt, it came back confirming the unit was the correct one for the car, and off it went. There were 12 modules on the update, and after about 15-20 minutes, it was finished.

I turned the ignition off, and this morning everything seemed to work. The same saved stations were still in the radio, and the seat/steering wheel warmer came on as it should.

Thanks to all for the help, and I'll keep this USB stick with the update on it in the car in case something goes wrong in the future.

Glad it worked out. When you do the next one use a different usb stick. That way, if you have a problem with the next update after it is installed it will be easy to go back. I have two sticks dedicated to the Jeep and switch back and forth. They are cheap enough for a little insurance.
