Re: Insurance Rates

I pay $1200 per year.... full coverage, roadside, free towing, etc... with a $500 deductible. Granted i live in NY and insurance rates are through the roof typically.

That's for my '14 WK2 Altitude and my wife's '13 Nissan Altima.

Generally the opposite...business use is most often looked at as "more use" meaning "more exposure" to risk. It's always been that way for as long as I've been purchasing auto insurance.

The vehicles are correct. My wife transports clients daily in her business, hence higher liability rates. I'm retired, so my GC is basically insured as a recreational vehicle (low mileage).

Re: Insurance Rates

With USAA, my 2014 Overland is $554.40 annually with well over the minimum coverage. My 2013 MX5 is $.14 less annually. We have three cars and no accidents or citations.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks.

I assumed it was similar to "farm use." If you own a farm or ranch out here, you can declare a vehicle "farm use" and get a nice discount, because the insurance companies assume you don't use it very often (but they don't actually verify this).

Re: Insurance Rates

Just under $1200 year, full coverage, OEM parts, no deductible, with significantly higher liability than required by law. A bit of a bump for higher mileage per year, a bit of a drop from also having a large umbrella liability policy from same agency.

Apparently collision is a tad high from having to drive in Colorude-o.

Took a bit of prodding to make sure OEM parts only, but the difference between no deductible and 100 was surprisingly low.

Re: Insurance Rates

I need to start shopping for better rates, paying just under $1,300 for full coverage and $500 deductible.

Re: Insurance Rates

We pay $1,040 per year with a $500 collision deductible. That includes discounts for good driving record and multi-policy since our homeowner's insurance is with the same company.

I'm one of those people who over-insures most stuff and have only filed 3 claims ever. I had some slight hail damage in 1989, vandalism in 2000, and cracked windshield in 2012. They even got their money back on the vandalism since the punk agreed to pay full restitution and testify against his drug supplier, among other things, in a plea bargain.

Keep in mind that OEM doesn't guarantee new. The industry terminology for used is "Like kind and quality".

That's not necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather have a used door that was assembled in the factory than a new door shell where the shop had to swap out all the parts from the old door into the new shell.
