Interior Cargo Dimensions

I never found this information even after several searches, so I apologize if it's a repeat. Here are some pertinent interior dimensions with a mind to loading bulky cargo into the 2011 Grand Cherokee:
-------------------------
- Length of cargo floor tailgate to front dash (Laredo cloth passenger seat folded): ~96"*
- Length of cargo floor tailgate to front seats (rears folded, fronts adjusted mid-way back): ~72"
- Length of cargo floor tailgate to rear seat: 48"
- Length of cargo "roof" top-of-tailgate** to top of rear seat: ~27"
- Width of cargo area opening: 42"
- Height of cargo area opening (floor to lowest trim panel at tailgate): 31"

* The length is great but the pass-through width from tailgate to the dash
is a bit narrow (I forgot to measure that) but will work easily for 2x6s and
other long slim items. The 96" still gives you a bit of buffer space to the dash itself for a pad.

**the top portion of the sloped glass of the tailgate, an approximation
and the loss of depth is ~15" from top to bottom depending on rake
of the rear seats when used by rear passengers. One of my cube
containers just barely fit into the back of a 2011 JGC I tested. Not an
issue though as I'm replacing it with a smaller one.

sorry to bump an old thread, but are the dimensions of the cargo area seriously 42"x48" with the seats up? Meaning my set of golf clubs measuring 52" long will not fit without folding down a seat?

Can any golfers on here comment on how a set of clubs (or 2-4 sets) fit in the back? My 2008 Subaru Legacy SEDAN can carry 4 sets without putting any diagonal or folding down the seats!

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

42 is the width of the opening, not of the actual cargo area itself. So it's possible that the interior itself is wider than the 42. I don't have my WK2 yet, so I can't comment specifically about the clubs.

One dealer I spoke with was a fellow golfer and said that it's definitely a diagonal affair to fit standard clubs. It's the same with my '04 WJ. The annual guys' outing might require a rooftop carrier for the sticks, IMO...

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

I'm trading in my 2001 GC for a 2011 Overland (now on order). Anyone know how the cargo volume behind the rear seats compares between these two models?

To my eye (based on test drive) the 2011 rear cargo space looks smaller than in my 2001. I asked the dealer, and he told me the 2011 actually has more cargo space behind the rear seat! Is this correct/possible? Is it just an optical illusion that the 2011 cargo space (behind rear seat) looks smaller to me?

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

I remember a review video on the new 2011 and they had a set of clubs laying across in the rear. Looked like it fit without being caddy corner. I do not know if they were a standard set though.

I'll bet there were no woods in that bag, or it was a junior set. I have seen owner comments elsewhere that corroborate the fact that diagonal storage is all you're going to get with a standard adult golf bag. If I make it by the dealer today I'll toss my bag in my WJ and try to get a photo of it in the WK2.

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

My same thought when I looked at a 11 jeep. I have no problems MY clubs laying sideways,Its plenty wide enough. The new jeep is not as wide in the cargo area and they don't fit. Stupid design on jeeps part.

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

FYI Can't fit my kids fold-up umbrella stroller in there either front to back, fits sideways though. It would fit either way in the trunk of my Passat though. I was shocked.

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

Speaking of golf clubs in the cargo area of the WK2, I saw this in an otherwise unremarkable video review at http://www.articlesbase.com/videos/5min/433369437.

It looks like there is a driver in this set but they must've sawed off the shaft because it seems to be shorter than the irons. It appears that the modding craze is now affecting the country club set.

I still don't believe that a set of regular clubs will fit like this but I will find out soon enough. I just got a call from a dealer who has what I'm looking for (with the addition of the tech package) and I'm hoping to do a pickup early next week. He's even honoring the FFP pricing I got on my factory order. Details later.

Re: Interior Cargo Dimensions

In the base Laredo with the 130 stereo (no subwoofer) a friend's golf clubs fit across, but in my Ltd that has the 430 stereo (with subwoofer) the same clubs do not fit straight across. Since I don't golf I hadn't had any thoughts about how the rear cargo design area affected golfers. That said, none of my friends who golf drive to the club with four people and their gear; it's usually just one or two and their clubs so is this really a serious issue?

No, it's not a serious issue, just a topic that a few of us golfing Jeep owners were wondering about.

I just like to do my due diligence before I make a purchase so that I'm not left to scream "Unconscionable!" or "Inexcusable!" when some feature I need isn't foreseen and built in by the designers so as to meet my every whim and desire. Sorry, that was a reference to an unfortunate meltdown witnessed in another thread.
