I have one now same interior as you and it doesn't look odd or bother me like it did when they first came out. My advice would be to give it some time and see if you adjust to it. Nobody who has gotten in our Jeep has made comment or mention about it.

Most people that get in my Overland are just so stunned by how nice the interior is that they don't notice the wood on the wheel.

They've probably never owned anything German either though. I wish the wheel was a solid blue honestly, or back even. Either of those I could live with. Its also friggin' hot every time I get in to drive the thing here in the Carolinas. Everything else on the Overland interior is pretty well done. The stock steering wheel is out of place.

I'm working with my dealership on a SRT wheel and matching shifter cassette now. I'm planning on reusing the blue airbag but may swap to a black one if the contrast is too bad. One thing we've found so far crawling the parts system is the matching SRT bag is ~$200 more than the others... guessing the emblem design is the reason why?

Will update once I have some more info. Looking through all my cars for loose change to pay for this mod, looks to be ~$900-1K for everything (minus bag).

Don't forget, the glossy finish allows the steering wheel to slide thru your hand after a turn while the wheel returns to center. They might have felt that the open pore might create drag and slow the wheel's return to center.

Also, don't forget that a dull wood would tend to get polished unevenly by the oils in your hand being in contact with certain spots sliding thru your hand over a long while, or by keeping your hand in the same area over an extended period of time.

I agree. To me the steering wheel is perfect, looks good, is functional and maintainable. I have a Summit so not sure if different than Overland.

Honestly, of the pages and pages of other significant problems affecting the transmission, engine, climate control system, and chassis and your major gripe is that the steering wheel's finish doesn't match the rest of the trim? SMH just SMH!

There are plenty of cars out there with matte finished wood on the steering wheels, no issues. if anything the matte wood moves through your hands more smoothly.

Its a cost cutting thing with Jeep I'm sure.

Re: Interior Materials Complaint - Gloss Steering wheel w/ satin trim? WTF?

You could put a few of coats of satin clear varnish on it and sand back each coat until the open pore is gone.

You could also go with a vinyl covering for a totally different look. I'm eyeing the orange brushed aluminum vinyl to cover the carbon fibre and brushed titanium vinyl to cover the silver center in my SRT. Should match with the orange Sepia leather nicely.

I agree - it is the silliest complaint ever posted on this forum that I have read. I have actually laughed out loud over it. But....like the saying "there are no stupid questions" to encourage people to ask questions if they are unsure about something instead of sitting back in ignorance....this forum is about many things including opinions. So, I'll sit back and continue to get a chuckle out of this thread....

I actually like the steering wheel in my Overland. Major reason I got it instead of the Limited. Also the stitching on the dash.

Granted I'm not a fan of the wood on the wheel in the first place but does anyone have any ideas on how to somehow get the finish looking similar to the rest of the wood trim?

I've looked at just replacing it with a Laredo black wheel but now I'm having to swap airbags too, and trim, etc... granted its a Jeep and not an Audi/BMW/Merc (and I like that its not more expensive) but come-on... all the trouble to do these nice contrasting interiors like the Germans offer and then not catch a glaring error on something I touch every single time I'm in the car lol. Any ideas appreciated. I am a little pink princess I know. =)

TIA.
I'm thinking it has to do with the heating feature. Maybe the trim was already decided upon in regards to the dash and when they moved to the wheel the type of wood wasn't perfect for heating..and then to cost save they just used the one similar to the tan interior since its not a dramatic difference.
