Intro and First Jeep

Hey all,

Total n00b here, and this is my very first Jeep. A little about me:

I've been a car enthusiast all my life, and have owned and worked on quite a few cars. My current car is a 2006 BMW M3 - I've been in love with the M division forever and this is my second M3 (used to own an 01), so I've spent most of my forum life over on m3forum.net where I've been a member for about 12 years.

But, as much as I adore the M, we also needed a second car to be something practical (have 2 dogs, a house, etc) and I've always been a fan of the GC line, so we went ahead and purchased our first. It's a 2014 Limited with 39k miles, and we pick it up next week. I've done some research and already becoming aware of some of the common issues, so I'll be checking on the recalls and see how the trans shifts, and be searching the forum for more knowledge. Any first time owner wisdom you guys can impart is always appreciated.

Here are a few pics of it, still at the dealer. I'll try to update photos next week after we pick it up and road trip it back down to New Orleans.

I'll add that being an M3 guy, I care about performance, so I actually wanted to get a 2014 or 2015 SRT, but the girl forbade spending the extra $20k or so just because I like things that go fast...so we settled on this V6 limited. She's going to be the primary driver anyway, so it should be plenty of power for her to get around town.

Congrats and welcome! Just sneak a RIPP supercharger kit on the Jeep while she's not looking!

Re: Intro and First Jeep

Looks very nice..let me tell you that obviously its not an M3, but you will have plenty of fun and acceleration, I have a Limited V6 also and for normal use its more than enough...and the first day you take it offroad thats when the real fun begins !...and that you cant do with an M3 !.
Enjoy and welcome.

Re: Intro and First Jeep

Congratulations and welcome. That's a nice looking GC you have incoming. Since you're an automobile enthusiast, I'm sure you can appreciate differences between vehicles so you'll temper your judgement on the GC's performance compared to your beloved M3--which are sweet by the way! I've got a '15 3.6 Limited and am finding it to be a very enjoyable vehicle with a nice amount of power. You may enjoy playing with Sport Mode and the paddles.

Re: Intro and First Jeep

Thanks guys!

I need to do some searching and start to learn more details.

I will add that I've liked GC since the ZJ platform, but I really fell in love with them with the WJ platform. There was just something about that SUV that I absolutely LOVED in every way. Also knew quite a few people who had them, and I have to say, after owning and driving tons of German, American, and Japanese cars and even working in the auto industry for a while, I'd be hard pressed to find a more comfortable seat than the driver and passenger seats in those WJ Grand Cherokees. Not sure what Jeep did there, but they were outstanding.

Then then went and made the WK platform and completely lost my interest in every way. Exterior and interior design, materials, quality, everything. (sorry to WK guys)

When the WK2 came out, I was really interested to see them again, and I've liked them more and more since then. Plus this mid-model refresh seems perfect (despite some of the reliability issues I've read about...)

Thanks, absolutely. I'm not expecting it to be anything like the M, and luckily I still have the M to drive around whenever I want

I do love the utility of it, and so far I can appreciate all the tech that's gone into it, especially in the interior. My M has basically none of those things as an '06 car, so I'm looking forward to playing with that cluster, the voice calling, the touch-screen infotainment system, etc. It's kinda childish, but I do love my gadgets, and cars have made a huge leap in just a few short years.

They only offer one red: Deep Cherry Red Crystal Pearl, so I always assumed that's the color.

EDIT:

BTW, now that you ask about the color, I did think of a question to which I can't find the answer, thought you guys might help: For BMW, there's a VIN decoder website where you can look up any BMW VIN going back to the 80s and find out exactly what build your car was, and what options it had installed. I don't really need it for the M3 because I know them so well, I can instantly tell what options were on it. But, I'm totally new to Jeep, so I'm much more lost there. Is there a place where I can double check my car's VIN and see what options it had installed? From the pictures, it seems like I have the Advanced Tech Group and Luxury Group on it, however, I have only a simple sunroof whereas the Luxury Group comes with a panoramic roof...so I'm confused. I obv have the HID headlights and 8.4in screen with BT and all the rest, so it's confusing me a bit.

I could just ask a dealer I guess, but I thought it would be cool if I could look it up on my own.

EDIT2: Found this: http://www.cherokeeforum.com/vindeco...RJFBG6EC100384 but that only gives you the standard specs on the car, it doesn't give me exactly what my car is equipped with.

Re: Intro and First Jeep

I realize that Deep Cherry Red is the only red, but this looks rusty orange to me. Just wondering if it was repainted non-stock. Thanks.

I think it's just the camera and the lighting. All the research I've done on the car (including having it CPO inspected by an independent Jeep dealer) does not indicate any accident history or painting of the car.
