I appreciate the comments from everyone. In the grand scheme its only $800, but its $800 I wouldn't have to spend....
If you have the invoices you should be able to compare the 2, line by line. In that case you wouldn't be asking about it.

If all you have is what the dealers told you is the invoice price, than you don't know if they both included it in the price they quoted you. Some dealers try to add it on after you agree to a price and claim it is a charge and not part of the price of the vehicle. An honest dealer includes it in the up front price.

All I was trying to do was arm myself with info before I went in demanding anything.

Thanks

I have some info on what to ask for, but I still have no understanding for why the invoice pricing on the WK2 site (run by the same person as this forum) does not match invoice pricing on Carsdirect or TruCar. Any why those sites match the invoice price I was given from my friends dealer. And why another dealer matches the price from the WK2 site.

Whatever I come up with, I will update...

I will keep this short, and hopefully someone will help. I priced out an Altitude Edition with all options (except engine block heater and cd player) and set the deal up through a friend. I also had my parents go through him for a '14 GC purchase, and there were zero issues. (2% below invoice, no drama, etc)

Finalizing the numbers, the invoice price I was given was a good bit higher than the invoice price I was given by another dealer, and by adding up options from the WK2 website. I can share my spread sheet if needed, but I calculated my invoice price being about $1880 less than the $41625 MSRP. Unfortunately, the dealer say invoice was only $1085 less than MSRP. (I did account for a $300 price increase not shown on the wk2 site, my final calculated msrp then matched the window sticker)

So I went back to my friend, and have started a debate that I can only assume is going to get increasingly more uncomfortable. I saw the price on the screen, so it wasn't something he made up.

I would march right into that dealer and fight for the $800 difference on invoice, but I went and checked a few websites. Both Trucar and CarsDirect show an invoice price that matches what I was told at my buddy's dealer.

So now what? Is the dealer, Trucar, and CarsDirect right? Or is the WK2 site and my quote from another dealer right?

I appreciate any help that anyone can provide.

I absolutely hate buying a new car....
You can't even count on jeep.com to give you the most current view. Truecar over does both invoice and msrp at times esp when an option is cheaper if added with a certain other option.

Glad you found the wk2jeeps.com error as I have several lately. The last update to the wk2 pricing pages was January 7th but November 24th of last year for the USA 2015 pricing.

Here's my thoughts. Any dealer, in today's car market, that will not lay a "Configuration Preview" for an order or the invoice detail for a known VIN should not be dealt with when your pricing is a % discount off the very "invoice" number.

Bet they are charging either a dealer included (ie not required) advertising fee or the ones the mfr's sometimes levy on the dealer per vehicle. That one is generally legit and will get paid, whether you think you did or not. They'll just relabel a regular negotiation discount. Like destination, the mfr levied ads charges get paid within the deal somewhere.

Another item is they might (just might) be including their "doc/prep/junk" fee in the invoice number.

All of these can affect the invoice but not the MSRP.

Sorry but me thinks your friend may have some "junk" in his trunk, er, invoice. But remember he is only following company policy on fees like this.

EDiT: fyi, options invoice price is a straight 11% off MSRP for that option except for wonky ones like the Altitude lll option package which is like a 20% discount off MSRP, and on every other third Sunday.....

Re: Invoice Pricing (huh?)

I ordered mine and my pal at the dealer (owners son) showed me the screen and printed out the pricing, showed Invoice and MSRP. Also included the shipping charge.

Ask for the printout. Note all the sites I visited, Edmunds, trucar, KBB much of their pricing info was inaccurate.

I got mine for invoice less 500$ rebate and they gave me a killer deal on the maxcare and let me buy the mudflaps, hood deflector, stainless sill protectors, and car cover at cost.

Oh the dealer is 1/2 mile down the street and I know everyone there, so I wasnt in haggled and buy somewhere out of state to save a few hundred bucks. these guys give me discount on parts, let me dump my pit oil there, and bunch of other favors.

I got approx $2000.00 (~4%) below invoice (printed from dealer) from two different dealers and I never met them before. No haggling. One was ordered no trade, the other was off the lot with trade (got a great trade-in too).

Re: Invoice Pricing (huh?)

also try EDMUNDS.COM, and you can price out your car & options and see the invoice price, compare this to the other pricing sites and see how it looks, it's a source I've found to be pretty accurate in the past

Re: Invoice Pricing (huh?)

Here are some pics of the dealer work up sheet that you want to be shown. If they are reluctant then walk. I was given these without even asking along with a price of 1500.00 under invoice. Top left corner will show MSRP and Vehicle cost which is the invoice price. Good luck with your negotiations.
