Question iPhone MPG calculator apps- Suggestions?

Seeking recommendations for good iPhone MPG/fuel economy tracking apps, or sites like Fuelly that provide a mobile interface.

My needs are fairly simple; I just want to establish the accuracy of the EVIC readout. FYI, I had been stuck at around 13.3 combined mpg (under 5K odo) but a steady diet of mid-grade fuel and reasonable driving habits (i.e., limited "Hemi Time" outbursts) has brought it up to ~14.5 which ain't bad around town.

TIA.

On iPhone I use Gas Cubby, it's very accurate and easy to use, little pricey thou $4.99 for the app. But works well for tracking fuel and maintenance expense on your vehicle and can do multiple vehicles as well. Just have to remember to enter the info every time you get fuel or to keep the receipt and write mileage down when you get fuel on the receipt to be entered later.

I use my wife's iphone to calculate gas mileage. When I fill up at the gas station I type the gallons put in and the miles driven since last fill up on the odometer into the built in calculator app.

I will start looking today for an app though, it would be nice to keep a track record of gas mileage throughout the year. My display in the Jeep is .3 MPG less than actual usage. It says I am at 12.5 but I am actually at 12.2. This is all city and red lights every few inches, maybe feet in some areas. The highway mileage is great, I get a consistent 22 when the speed gets up to 50 or so for a few miles, it's this city stuff that kills me.

Gas Cubby. I've tried about a dozen
and it's the best. It even syncs to a central server for backup/multiple devices.

I agree, but it's a little disheartening when you see the total $$ you spend at the end of the year!! LOL!!

Re: iPhone MPG calculator apps- Suggestions?

Guys, thanks for the recommendations. If I decide to go the paid-app approach it sounds like GasCubby has stood the test of time. I considered the pen/paper/calculator approach but wanted to track results over time as we get into warmer weather (and hopefully, better MPG).

I decided to try the free Fuelly.com approach for starters after pulling up their mobile-optimized site on my phone and deeming it user friendly. I then got gas and entered a fuel-up which was very straightforward. So now I have my baseline.

One aspect of Fuelly that might turn some people off is that your info is shared with the Fuelly community. To their credit, they make it clear up front that this is the whole point of the service, to compare your MPG to that of others. That is not a negative for me. I suppose if I were the paranoid type I might be able to concoct some reason why it was bad for strangers to know my MPG or the type of vehicle I drive.

I reset my mileage calculator, and it told me I got 21.2 mpg on a tank of fuel. I calculated it out to be 24.1 based off of mileage and amount put back in on the next fill up. They don't seem to be too exact.

Yours was about 3% off, and mine 13% off.

Re: iPhone MPG calculator apps- Suggestions?

Thank for the additional suggestions, guys.

To the comments about the "accuracy" of the EVIC mpg display, I think it boils down to expectations. The readout states that it's showing average mpg, and the constantly changing progress bar indicates that it's giving continuous snapshots as driving conditions change. In that respect I find it helpful as a guide to more conservative fuel use, but I don't expect it to give me the same type of accuracy as the simple formula that the iphone apps automate.

Manufacturers could easily implement this but they're probably betting that most people don't calculate MPG on their own now, so why draw attention to it...

I use Milebug Pro because I can log trips for tax deduction purposes.

Re: iPhone MPG calculator apps- Suggestions?

I use Road Trip. It's another $5 app but it works well, keeps good stats, and has a pretty good service log and reminder.
