Re: Irritating stuff

Well, OK then.

But I'd think I'd see if the thing fit BEFORE I plunked down 40 grand if it's that much a deal breaker.

My new forged aluminum, six inch drop, ball mount will not fit into the storage area by the spare tire. So....where does Jeep think I am going to store this hitch??? Doesn't anyone at Jeep check this stuff out?

2. I use reading glasses to see road maps (remember those?) or read notes or other stuff....and I carry a cell phone....oftentimes I need a pen or pencil when driving. There is no "handy" place to temporarily store these and other small items while driving. Everything has a curved surface of holds beverages or has an access door on it. Doesn't anyone think about this stuff?

There is more....but this sorta stuff really ticks me off. I will solve these issues.....but I don't think I should have to. I feel like I'm off on the wrong foot with this vehicle. I want to like it.....but there is always a "but"

OH....and dont get me started on the Off Road Adventure 18" tires......grrrrrrr

OK....rant over.
One would think that in the 10 weeks you waited, from the time you ordered your Overland until it arrived, you might have discovered these "Inexcusable" issues and went another direction in your vehicle selection.

Seems like the other prime reason for your vehicle decision should have been whether the hitch will fit where you want it to.

Re: Irritating stuff

I'd really like to know what type of trailer requires a 6" drop with the new JGC. Most trailers run the standard hitch hieght the same as most stock vehicles. The hieght is around 18-18 1/2 inches from the ground. Most 4x4 trucks will require a small drop, 1 tons can take a 4-6" drop when empty due to the rear hieght being high because of the large capacity springs.

I can't imagine a trailer which needs a 6" drop behind the JGC. The center of the reciever on my Overland is 18" from the ground at normal ride hieght. Unless you are trying to tow with it lifted to ORII I can't understand needing that much drop. Towing at speed while lifted is impossible as the vehicle lowers at speed automatically from the OR positions. I have flat trailers and enclosed trailers and flat tow my Jeeps behind a motorhome. On all of these standard hitch hieght is 18" as stated above.

As far as the other gripes you listed, if these minor things annoy you that much you should have observed and thought more carefully before making the purchase. Some people think the world should be tailored for their every whim. Sheez!

Re: Irritating stuff

What vehicle has what the WK2 offers AND has room for an overly large hitch drop to be hidden out of sight anyway? FWIW, if you look underneath the WK2 (under where the spare tire well is outside, between the differential and rear bumper) there is a huge empty space where one could rig a compartment to store such a hitch or some other odd sized and weathered item. I suspect this cavernous area will be utilized for a future battery location for hybrid applications. I have to agree with the above that if there is one very important need in a vehicle it should be thoroughly researched prior to purchase. There are no perfect vehicles.
