is a 2015 still "new"

Friend is looking at a new 2015 on a dealer lot and he keeps quoting the MSRP. Hasn't a 2015 depreciated already ? Is this just being a dealer ? YWTK

Re: is a 2015 still "new"

Yeah, I mean if its a new vehicle on the lot then its new. Just because its technically a model year old now doesn't necessarily mean that they have to reduce the price either. However, realistically you will be able to work a much better deal on a "left over" 2015 vs a new off the truck 2016.
Don't let your friend talk too much about MSRP because you can get a LOT off MSRP...even on a 2016 you should never pay close to MSRP. Just as an example, in 2015 I bought my left over Summit V8 for just shy of $9,000 off MSRP. Earlier in 2016 I bought my 2015 (before 2016s were on the lot), and was $6,300 off MSRP on that one. If the dealer wont work much on the dealer then move on to the next dealer. I know not everyone lives in a large metro area, but here there is literally a Jeep dealership in every town so there is plenty of leverage to use.
Hope this helps.

If little to no miles and never titled, it's new. Dealer should go way under msrp. Even under invoice.
A used 15 has depreciated, but not necessarily a new one. One advantage is that years down the road it will have lower miles than the average 15

The mileage thing is actually a really good point and can be beneficial down the road like he said. Most would just automatically assume its now already a year old and instantly worth less. Not necessarily true! I bought my late built 2014 Summit well into 2015 and it was considered a left over. I don't drive a ton of miles each year, but when it came time to list it for sale or consider trading it my 2014 had crazy low mileage...infact lower mileage than most 2015s. For example on a basic search at the time it seemed like most 2015's were pushing 8K+ miles and 2014s were at 30K+. My 2014 only had 6,600. So not only did my 2014 have lower miles than most 2015s, it was slightly cheaper so it attracted a LOT of attention.
My 2015 High Altitude only has 1,600 miles on it so it will be the same scenario for this one as well.

Re: is a 2015 still "new"

I bought a 2015 HA two weeks ago and was able to negotiate a bit based on the fact that as soon as I drove it off the lot it was a year old. For all intents and purposes it reallly wasnt because it had 10 miles on it and was a late year model release, but I was able to get about 7k below msrp (including rebate)

Well this is a '15 Laredo 4x2 so not as much meat on the bone but looks like about 14% off MSRP. Sound reasonable ?

Re: is a 2015 still "new"

JTS makes a great point,I bought my '11 as a 'leftover' or 'end of year' price,it only had 51 miles on it,years later,I am getting near 26,000 miles which is WAY lower than the great percentage, and at the time there were ridiculously good deals.Same with my '15,I didn't do as well on savings as JTS but did get $7,000 off so was happy with that, current mileage is alittle over 1,400 miles(don't travel far,my wife kinda decided it was hers as I really enjoy driving the '11,kinda like an old friend),and as noted on 'leftover' '15's there are great deals,if not from the Dealer whose stock you looked at,there will be a Jeep Dealer who wants to work with you to move another unit from their lot.

Absolutely not! It is a lot harder to sell a 4x2 first of all. Go to kbb.com, edmunds or truecar and see the price. It should be $500 under invoice...at least!

Re: is a 2015 still "new"

a) not in Florida, more 2WDs are sold in the flatlands & are used more as a station wagon.
b) doesn't seem to be much difference between MSRP and Invoice on a Laredo with only the 23E package, less than a grand.

Well, he's in Orlando, so the market forces could be different there.

Having said that, I would certainly a) question why it's been sitting so long and b) wonder how sitting so long in a Florida environment has affected stuff that doesn't like the combination of humidity and salty air.

Re: is a 2015 still "new"

OK know what I need to.

Is a bit of a special case for Orlando:
1) 70 miles to nearest coast, things do not rust here. (Wet but no salt, have gotten used to pulling exhaust manifolds without breaking bolts).
2) Jeep dealer is a special case, cars are in a parking garage

So not concerned about weathering, just depreciation.

Re: is a 2015 still "new"

Given that MY16 is currently shipping and only has a few more months before MY17 starts production, I'd suggest you negotiate "really hard" on that MY15 if you're interested in it. As has been mentioned, your starting point is invoice, not MSRP. You can calculate invoice pricing from the information posted at wk2jeeps.com (or estimate from Edmunds, TrueCar, etc) to help you get that starting point. Check for any available incentives as those should come off AFTER your negotiated price. Considering folks using the DC group buy can get 7% off invoice, minus incentives plus $500 processing, you'll want to shoot for at least that on this very-left-over vehicle.
