Re: Is Anybody on here happy with there WK2?

moreover, we still own a 2001 4x4 V8 GC, and at the end of the day, that's still the car my wife and kids want to drive if they can.

Re: Is Anybody on here happy with there WK2?

6 months old this weekend and 5500 miles and no problems except for the 60 mph drone noise when going up a hill that a few others have with no real fix. I have seen a few posts where people are talking about when they bought their jeep they were buying American. Do most of you know that Fiat owns more than 50% of Chrysler and Mercedes before Fiat?

Excellent point, and although I don't really care too much about "buying American" my window sticker says that 71% of the parts content is US/Canadian. Also further off topic so please excuse but I can also say that I've owned a number of Volvos over the years and was really turned off by some of the changes made after they were sold to China. I didn't "buy American" specifically because of that but it was in the back of my mind.

Re: Is Anybody on here happy with there WK2?

Adding: even with the issues here was yesterday's report. 7 months ownership..

Sport mode:

I had a chance for the first time since I owned her to get on smooth highway for a significant amount of time on I80 And 78 or 278 not sure lol NYC to Saylorsurg PA. About 45 minutes out of the city the road turns to smooth blacktop. ( important because my suspension is not up to par ).. As I started to test her abilities on open road ( my daily use is ny/nj rush hour traffic and roads).. I noticed this little engine step up to the plate. With the windows closed, ac on and no radio so I can listen I must say she is impressive. I tested from 40 - 70 cruising speeds and kicked her down to see her do her thing from different speeds. She was great in every aspect. The engine roars to life, the transmission downshifts a gear and 2 depending on the scenario and never left me pushing the floorboard looking for more. I just reached between 90 and 100 once or twice just to feel her out real quick and she had room to go but I didn't want to push my luck with law enforcement and safety. She ran almost 100 percent smooth under acceleration at 85 and above with just a little noticeable noise or grind or vibration type feeling. It didnt feel like an issue but it definitely was not as comforting and solid as 70 mph. At one point I was doing 40 and started going down a downgrade.. When I kicked her down she kicked down quick and confidently into ( 1st? ) pulled hard and then when she went to kick into (2nd?) it felt as if there was a quick shut off of the electric to the spark plugs, taking torque off the tranny and then shifted effortlessly into second without any concerning thumps thuds or noises. ( I explain it like this because my race bike used an electric air shifter that used to shut down the electric for a second and the air tube would slam the foot shifter down allowing a quick precise shifting into the next gear ) so this feeling was very welcomed albeit I have only felt it three times and it was all kind of going downhill. Very strong engine and tranny for a V6 against this weight.

All she needs now is a better exhaust note.

Then I got closer to the city on the ride back.. End

Re: Is Anybody on here happy with there WK2?

I, as well as others, agree with the suprising power of the 6 banger in these heavy vehicles. Especially considering they are geared way to high (needs 3.50 gears or lower).

Ford sold volvo 2 years ago: http://i.autoblog.com/2010/03/28/for...r-1-8-billion/

They also sold the rest of their non-core portfolio. Jaguar and Land Rover are now owned by an Indian company.

Hmm I wonder if there is an 800 support number that will require you to restart your jaguar three times before sending out a tech for electronic problems......

Re: Is Anybody on here happy with there WK2?

'11 Overland 4x4 V8

No real issues thus far, needed some software upgrades, potentially may need a new torque converter due to the "jerkiness" when cruising up a hill at 45-65, don't really know that I feel comfortable with the local dealership trying to do something more complicated than plugging in to the car and updating software.

It's a great vehicle, the Overland interior is fantastic, the features are nice (with some absolutely terrible omissions - no LED taillights? REALLY? That was a terrible omission in '08 for a nicer vehicle, it's flat out unacceptable in '11. Yes I know they're planning to add them for 2014, but I'm disappointed they didn't do that from the start, it feels like something they decided to intentionally leave out, only to change later on to try to get people to buy new vehicles).

Fuel economy isn't great, but its a 5200 pound V8 4x4 vehicle. Considering that, it's hard to fault it getting 15/21. My friends with V8 2WD pickup trucks envy my fuel economy, so that's a plus I suppose.

It drives nice, is comfortable, and has been relatively problem free. I've yet to take it offroading or through snow, so it's likely I'm missing a big part of the "draw" to the vehicle.

I wish the cooled seats were more effective. The fact that I have black leather doesn't help, and that I haven't yet bought a sunshade, but I do wish they worked as well as the heated seats. I also wish it didn't have the FOBIK, I at first didn't think it had a smart key because it used the same key as the non smart key vehicles. I guess it's just to save money on the housings, though it would be nice if it were partly metal like the MB FOBIK is now. It's not like a slightly nicer housing would cost more than a few dollars.

Overall it's a good vehicle, but sometimes I feel like it's missing something. I don't know why, but it just doesn't feel "special" compared to the other vehicles out there. It's a great value compared to the Touareg, X5, ML, etc. - but so are the MKX, RX350, RDX, etc. I suspect that the special comes from the offroading prowess, but coming from sportier CUVs, it's a departure.

FWIW, Jag and LR have had something of a resurgence since being owned by Tata (seriously, that's the name of the company that owns them now, I'm not making this up). Having owners that truly give a damn about them, and don't see them as just some offshoot brands they don't know how to fit Fords into the lineup of has helped a lot. And we don't ever have to worry about the Range Rover being a re-badged Expedition now. Well, maybe. They do like do use Ford platforms still, and the RR is "all new" and unlikely to still be related to the BMWs from 2 owners ago.

I have seen you post a few times about the suspension. Have you had it checked out? On my 2011 Overland the ride didn't seem right at times very stiff not compliant. I would feel the smallest cracks in the road thorugh the steering wheel. I had it checked out and they said it was normal nothing wrong. I did find though if I put it up to OR2 and then back to normal it would ride good for a while. I have no idea why but it seemed to work. I have since traded for a 12 overland of which the suspension seems much better so far.

Buying the Jeep was for me a decision I made because I DID want to buy an American product. I know parts are made elsewhere but I made the decision early in the car buying process to buy something from an American company and narrowed it down until the Jeep came out on top. I do not regret my purchase of the Jeep and I am impressed with it in every way. Plus I got to help out an American company!!

Re: Is Anybody on here happy with there WK2?

Overall, I'm very happy. The build quality of my 2012 Overland V8 has proven to be excellent. Apart from a noisy sunroof (fixed by adjusting the glass), it's been 100% reliable. There are a couple of niggling issues, like the fact that the Nav system won't remember my home address setting, but I trust that most of this type of stuff will be cleared up by a software update at some point.

If I had any criticism it would be regarding the responsiveness of the engine/automatic transmission. That could be better, particularly given the fact that it's a fairly beefy engine (Hemi V8). I'm hopeful the day will soon come when we can tune our CPUs a bit to address this sort of thing.
