E85 is a piece of shit and if I ever get a car that can use E85, I would never use it. IMO

Unless I'm turning in a rental car and have to fill up the tank to were I got it LOL
LOL! Rental cars I usually piss in the gas tank and sometimes the trunk

Yep, one 3rd person account is enough of a statistical sampling to come a definite conclusion that E85 sucks in the new V6 Pentastar. Sorry I posted a link to other areas of the net where thousands of people who actually use the stuff are posting erroneous information. I'll refrain from being open minded in the future.

Re: Is anyone running E-85 Gas in their WK2 V6?

Based on what I know about e85 (and yes, I could be wrong), I would definatly NOT use it with the 5.7.

The high ethenol content from my understanding breaks down rubber seals over time such as o-rings which are most likely used in our fuel lines. I beleive that cars built to run on e85 are using brass connectors throughout the fuel system to prevent this.

Again, I could be wrong, but this was one of things that I seem to remember reading about years ago.

Re: Is anyone running E-85 Gas in their WK2 V6?

if you can use E85 it will say so all over the Jeep.

Has jeep stated e85 is OK with either?

if not dont use it. if so, try it.

my 07 4.7 is FlexFuel rated by Jeep. When gas was 4.40 a gallon here I used e-85 in my 4.7. I got about 20% less mileage per gallon SO I only bought it if the price was at least 20% less than regular 87.

so its rather simple;

1. if Jeep says you can use E85 then try it.
2. it only makes sense if its cheaper per mile so fo your own math.

I havent even seen any around here lately but I bet once gas hits 4 bux this summer it'll be back.

I believe it is. Besides you bought a 5.7 Hemi why would you want to put E85 in it anyway. Don't you want the most power you can possibly get, or are you just a cheapskate who is trying to save $3 on fuel. Corn and gasoline don't mix period. One day you will realize its all bogus man. Loose the cats and run 110 Leaded cam2 all day man. Screw the ozone layer when you can have the sweet smell of cam2 coming out of your exhaust.

Besides why do you care so much about the penstar v-6 when you don't even have one, I think the HEMI police need to revoke your motor and put in the I4 from the Chrysler 200 in your jeep and let it sip on E85 all day long. Imported from Detroit guys

Jeep says E85 is fine with the Pentastar. My gas cap is yellow and says something to the effect of "go ahead and use E85 if you like." Not every one with the V-6 has the Flex Fuel badge on the tailgate; some do, some don't. Mine doesn't. Apparently there was some kind of emissions deal with E85 early on that's since been sorted out. There's some states where the things aren't considered "E85 compliant" because they didn't have it so it would pass emissions on E85 yet, but AFAIK you can still run E85 through it.

The Hemi is NOT E-85 compatible. So don't try it. 89 octane E10 or better only.

i think its nice to have the choice with the V6 - Flexfuel. Thats the name, gives you flexibility for the future.

I try to find some E85 and i will try it out...

Sorry for trying to provide an educated answer to a basic question asked by a fellow forum member.

And trust me, I've burned through tens of thousands of dollars of of Cam2, VP and other high performance fuels in my lifetime.

Actually, I'm wondering why they didn't use the active intake version of the 5.7 in the WK2. Not fair that the RAM gets 25HP more......

I guess I did get unnecessarily heated for that I apologize.

Constructively here is a Edmunds test that proves E85 is more costly. Of course the offset of the cost of E85 and 87(E10) can be the deal breaker but here in NY the price offset is still not worth it.

There is really no need to do the testing, it's a simple matter of the fact that E85 has significantly less energy than gasoline. Traditional gasoline has an energy rating of 46.4 (MJ/kg), while E85 is much lower at 33.1 (MJ/kg). Fuel economy and power output will suffer significantly if you run E85 in your V6. Yes, you can build/tune an engine to produce fantastic power on E85, basically with very high compression and large fuel flow rates but it is an unavoidable fact that a gallon of E85 has significantly less energy than a gallon of gasoline. Octane and energy are two completely different things. Ethanol can be produced with very high (100+) octane ratings to prevent pre-ignition (knocking), but it is still a lower energy fuel than gasoline.
