Is buying a 2011 Overland with 36,000+ miles risky?

It's a former company car. It has just over 36k miles. The more I look at used cars, (and correct me of I'm wrong) but it doesn't seem like you save *that* much going from a used 2011 with 11k miles to one with over 36k -- but that doesn't seem very logical. All things equal, there should be significant savings going to a car with 25k more miles, no?

IMO, yes, especially considering you're past the standard warranty period, I'd expect about a 10% price difference between the two based on mileage.

Thank you for the swift response. Is there a formula dealers use for mileage, i.e. how did arrive at that 10%?

I would not pay more than $30K for an 5.7L 4X4 overland with that many miles. If it is a 4X4 you have to start worrying about the QL suspension and something going wrong. I would ask for an extended warranty to be added for sure.

Here is a 2011 Summit 4,500 miles for $28K show a clean record not sure what's sup with the price though. http://evergreenluxurycars.com/

It's a V6 4x4. My Dad works for Chrysler, so this is a former company car. Can't I buy one of those Chrysler factory extended warranties from the dealer or can those only be purchased when still under 36,000 miles?

You can still purchase a genuine Chrysler Warranty from http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com or other dealers who sell the Chrysler warranty for up to 4yrs/48,000 miles from the vehicle in-service date.

Something is fishy with the pricing on all of that site referenced above. Every vehicle they have listed is below market by at least $5k...
That '10 white diamond Platnum Esclade will do 50k+ all day long at a wholesale aution..they ahve it listed for $40k.

Just lost all cool points for that one, LOL Yeah I am not sure what is up with the dealer either. If I was in the market I would definitely find out though.

There's a couple of sites online, but a quick visit to KBB.com will let you try it out. Select the year model mileage and options, as equipped and then duplicate the entry with the other mileage, see what it comes up with.

The problem with buying from company fleets is they are compelled to sell at "fair market value" so they don't draw the ire of the IRS. Fair Market Value is sometimes favorable to the purchaser, sometimes not. I can tell you if you knew which auction lot it would be going to you could pick it up cheaper, but you'd have to have payment with you.

I'd use NADA, that's what the dealers and banks use for vehicle valuation:

http://www.nadaguides.com/

Although it's best to go to a library that has the little blue NADA book to get the true dealer/bank valuation.

That is a lot of miles for a new car.... even for me. I would say no.

Re: Is buying a 2011 Overland with 36,000+ miles risky?

What are you able to get it for? I've been searching for the last couple months and i find it strange that most of the pre-owned limiteds and overlands are going for the same, if not more then what you can get a new one for when taking into account all the incentives/rebates. I never thought I'd go brand new, but I am being offered a deal on a leftover '11 that is a crazy deal and is a better price then most of the used ones I've been shopping. It's Basically $8k off of MSRP.
