Is it Normal to be told to wait a month to check a check engine light?

Hi I'm financing a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee summit w/ platinum package and rear blu Ray dvd entertainment system.. I plan on keeping this car for a very long time so I purchased all there warranties.. That's ding and dents, tire, interior, maintenance package and lifetime warranty.. Pretty good investment I would say.. I am person who takes care of his ride and I am very on top of things I don't miss an fluid or filter changes in fact I tend to change things earlier if it's up to me..

I get a check engine light routinely I would bring it to my mechanic as soon as possible.. I'm a believer that cars can snow ball into bigger problems so I nip them quickly.. So I have life time warranty so I bring my car for the dealer for everything and I get a check engine light I expect to get it check out immediately before problems escalate.. I call Hudson Chrysler to let them know I'll be stopping by and they told me they are booked solid so I tell them fine I'll come in tomorrow Bc I have a check engine light issue and a few other things I would like to get addressed or scheduled down the line.. The tell me that the next available appt is dec 21 and that due to recalls they have been booked solid..

So I tell her I'm not in a position to be driving my car with this light on can you put the service manager.. I get placed on hold and actually wait like 10 minutes to get a voice mail and I leave a detailed message.. I go in the next day and try to speak to someone I'm cool with in there which is hard to do Bc every time I go there they fired the last one and explain to the service lady the situation.. She tells me as long as the lights not blinking I should be good and that's really the best they can do..

So my question is what do I do?

I don't want to wait nor do I feel I should risk damage to my investment or should I be subjected to wait being I paid for this "lifetime warranty" .

And to make things better I get this email ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1448608636.004280.jpg which states completely opposite to what's she's saying.. Which I find ironic that I received Bc another issue in having is with the Uconnect system (auto start ) and usually as soon as I get a check engine light my alert goes off through them stating the issue... Which I didn't receive..

I don't know what to do and I can't be without my car and let it sit until dec 21st.. What should I do and who do I reach out to get this alleviated and looked into?

Get a cheap OBD-II reader and find out what the code is.

Most non-blinking CEL issues are OK to drive with, though they might point to a problem that, if it gets worse, could leave you stranded..

While I agree with Tom's advise, my addition to it is to find a new/different dealer service department to do business with. Clearly, you're getting the brush-off from the dealer you've been trying to work with.

I am in a similar situation. Have a check engine light on, they want me to drop the car off for at least a week. Stating they are backed up from a bunch of recalls. Another dealership is saying the same thing.

I ended up booking an appointment for 12/12 with a third dealership, the first two wouldn't even take an appointment.

My lease ends in August, I am probably going to move on after this. I like the car, but not happy with the service departments. What if something was really wrong? I would be out of a car for a couple weeks.

Re: Is it Normal to be told to wait a month to check a check engine light?

I am fortunate enough to be in the Chicago area so there is a Jeep dealer at every corner. However, I was a bit surprised that my dealer I purchased from what also booked for 3 weeks solid and that was for nothing more than a software update they told me they could do.
I see how it's annoying, but in reality your Jeep is fine to drive. If you are able try another local dealer (if you have one).

I did an obd read just now and it said it was an oil pressure sensor fault. I reset it for now, but I am sure it will come back before my service appointment.

Not sure what year you have but there is a TSB out there on the 2014 GCs that involves replacement of faulty oil pressure sensors, possibly the fault you are getting.

You know what that's not even a bad idea.. Definitely an investment I don't mind spending.. Any suggestions or brands I should be made aware of? It'll save me that trip possibly and it'll be good to know now rather later..

I agree with you.. I just hate jumping around.. When choosing this dealership I made it clear with them that I wanted to establish a long term relationship with them.. It was good in the beginning but they went through a lot of staff since I've been there so I'm constantly reintroducing myself and starting all over.. Between this and the loaner situation ( which I have but is limited to a rental for barely anything not even a week ) leaves a bad taste in my mouth

And that's upsetting.. They're allowing to many possibilities for era or future eras by postponing a check up.. It's like what are you suppose to do? This is the second time they did this.. I had a check engine light in early October made a appt for nov 11th couldn't wait a week before I took it to my mechanic.. It was nothing major luckily and was just reseted but if it was something major what then? I let my mechanic fix it out of pocket? If something else goes wrong are you gonna blame my mechanic and void the warranty? There putting me in a bad spot.. I don't want pay anything out my pocket which is why I got warranty.. Not to mention I have the manufacture warranty still in affect.

I have had good name higher cost ODBII scanners in the past. But now a days you really don't need to spend much on these things, I bought this one not long ago that is a Bluetooth to your Android device (there is probably an apple variant if you are on the dark side) works great and lots more features than the older wired classics. It is $17 on amazon many good reviews, uses the Torque app. The base version of torque is fine, I bought the $5 upgrade gives you some more features. Good one to try if you don't want to spend much.
