Is my jeep 4 wheel or all wheel drive?

I have a 2015 overland.
Just curious: Is the jeep 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive? Is the jeep in rear wheel drive all the time and then when it slips, the system kicks in?

Re: Is my jeep 4 wheel or all wheel drive?

Not sure which T-case you have but in both cases, the base T-case in the Laredo splits tourque 50/50 front rear all the time. So from a traction standpoint that is good. It does not have 4-lo range.

The QT2 t-case splits tourque 60/40 normal and provides options to change the split, 50/50 snow mode, 80/20 sport mode etc

It also can change the distribution ratio real time front to rear depending on the conditions. It also has 4-lo.

Plus both use brake traction control and the computer.

If you have QD2, the rear diff can also change the split side to side.

So yes you could say you have both if you have QT2 t-case.

I myself dont care for any of the older systems in many AWD cars because they basically send most of the tourque to the front or rear wheels and only engage when they detect slipage. I live in Maine and freind owns body shop and begs me to come in on weekends after snow storms to disassemble wrecks and develop parts lists. Most smashed up makes are Subies(not the good ones with the torsen diffs and CRV and RAV 4. all the AWD systems with most tourque going to drive wheels and then transfer TQ when drive wheels slip. Always the same story, going down the road on ice snow, wheels loose traction, car fish tails( doesnt track straight in 1-6 inches of snow doing 30-40 mph) and then off the road or spin out into another car.

no thanks, give me 50/50 split, odds of lossing traction on both axles is nil, car stays straight. never see older jeeps with NV242 or cherokees etc because they track staright and dont spin out so easy.

Which 4 wheel drive system do you have? There is a summary at 4x4 that might help.

Re: Is my jeep 4 wheel or all wheel drive?

With 4-low available, you likely have QuadraDrive with the V8, or QuadraTrak II if QD wasn't optioned on your Overland.

JGC is full-time 4WD, but it's an intelligent system as already mentioned which brings some of the nice things from "AWD" so that's it's not clunky like old-style 4WD systems. With the Selecterrain system you have, what setting you are using will make changes in how things work to best suite the driving need at-hand.

I think I have quadradrive. I have the V8.

The selecterraing setting is on auto. So its not rear wheel when driving normally?

No. "Normal" is a 50/50 split. Sport is more biased to the rear. No setting is "just rear wheel drive". (unless you buy the 4x2 model )

Re: Is my jeep 4 wheel or all wheel drive?

So which one do I have...

Akakakakakakakakakakakakakaka

Jk. Will possibly go with lockers in the future.

I did think about grabbing the 4x4 but for the amount of use I would need 4x4 didn't want to worry about paying more and something breaking.

With the Overland you have QTII T-Case.

do you have the hemi,if so do have the off road adventure 2 or qd2 rear diff? they are options?

In any case you have a good system, but short coming is the lousey tires.

I sprung for a new set of wheels and nokiam R2 snows, will be a beast with those.

QDII is not available with the V6 gas on any trim level.

QDII is not available on the Laredo.

QDII is available on the Limited as part of the ORAII package when you have the V8 or V6 diesel.

QDII is available on the Overland when you have the V8 or V6 diesel. Then QDII can be had as an option by itself or as part of the ORAII package.

On the Summit, QDII is standard with the V8 or V6 diesel.
