Re: Is the 2011+ officially a WK or a WK2

That's weird though because how can a 2006-2010 be a WK and so is the completely different 2011-2015? They are 100% different platforms. Even though I don't have proof, if I had to guess I would say WK is the official 2006-2010 and WK2 is the official 2011-2015+ Then im gonna start the 2014+ is the WK2.5 :-D

Re: Is the 2011+ officially a WK or a WK2

Well they carried through the same model numbers, Milous explained it in that old thread that they did it to hide the new model details from suppliers during development.... makes sense, but hugely confusing. And they were forced to expose the new car during the fall out of the GFC anyway.....

Interesting stuff.

The platform is NOT 100% different. Just wanted to throw that out there.

But with that said.... lets put it this way.

Nobody in JNAP says "WK2"....

It's WK.

Although im sure every car on this planet shares atleast a few parts or two, but what is the same between the two then? I have owned both and cant think of anything that was really the same. Sure things carried over like the Hemi, or even the uconnect radio was similar between the 08-10 WK and the 11-13 WK2, but even those similar items were changed in one way or another. OOOOOO I know I figured it out! The memory button on the drivers door is identical!!!

Damnit Marlon, we'll call it what we want!

WK2 makes sense... it's the 2nd generation of the 3rd generation.

I'm not talking about parts. The platform, a set of dimensions, is similar between the two.

Wait....couldn't that make it a WK3?
05-10= WK
11-13=WK2
14+ is WK3? Or the also popular WK2.5? Or maybe....oh forget it, I give up
So confusing, I'm just calling mine a Jeep from now on

I call shenanigans and this is all Milous and Marlons fault!

Reswob is on a distinguished road
ZJ, WJ, WK, WK...again? It's never made any sense, just go with it. Will the 5th gen be WK3 or maybe something else entirely.

Re: Is the 2011+ officially a WK or a WK2

Have bought a few accessory parts and its def referred to as a WK in chryslers system, most of the parts even identity as WK, never seen WK2 anywhere on anything from Jeep/Chrysler.

Agree its pretty confusing. I like the way Audi does it, they have car segment letters followed by the generation #. I have an A6 (C car segment) an its the C7 designation, as its the 7th version to come out. Their B segment car (smaller) is on its eighth B8 and their D segment car (larger) is on its fourth D4. Even makes it easy to search outside of the OEM, I can go on eBay and search C7 for parts and things come up.

Not sure why jeep is doing it this way, makes it confusing in the parts world.

The reason why has been posted above. That is true. Now why they thought that was smart, I don't know. It doesn't really matter on our side because everything goes by part number anyway.
