Is the WK2 worth the upgrade from a 2010 Limited?

I've been thinking hard about trading in the 2010 Limited...

The wife doesn't think it's worth it... The 2010 is a fantastic SUV... it's pretty well fully loaded. chrome wheel package, hemi, etc. It's fast. It's comfortable. It works.

BUT

Keyless Go, power liftgate, 20'' wheels, pano sunroof.... 4 inches of rear seat legroom...

I'm guessing about a 10k spread to get into an 2011 Overland. Is it worth it?

Well as Matt the finance major put it to me when I was questioning trading in for a 1 year older overland from my jeep...

Again, not worth it for a few extra ponies in an SUV.

if the spread is not a big issue then I say go for it because the WK2 as Scott would say is leapyears beyond the current WK and just amazing have you driven one yet?

Re: Is the WK2 worth the upgrade from a 2010 Limited?

The facts are these, if you like the new jeep and dont mind paying for it, then you'd be crazy to stick with the 10. the 11 is sooooooooo much further ahead of the last gen jeep, i know, i had an 08 limited before trading. This new jeep is in a different league. The exterior looks a lot better, the interior has been upgraded as was the sound system. Overall, the new jeep is more like a bmw x5 than a 10 limited. If the money isnt going to hold you back, jump on the new jeep my man, you'll be glad you did.

Dont get me wrong, your current ride is very very nice. You aint driving a yugo....but the new jeep is a step up, no question. Go test drive an overland with the hemi and then talk to me.

Re: Is the WK2 worth the upgrade from a 2010 Limited?

I'm swapping in a 2008 Patriot for mine, but that's a whole different world.

For you, I don't know that I would. one year of depreciation will be absolutely murderous. A $30-35K Grand Cherokee might only bring $20-25K. That's going to hurt. Plus the additional time on the resulting loan. I know if I'd have bought a GC back in 08, I doubt I'd be awaiting my own 2011... the only reason I went Patriot is because I couldn't find a seating position in the GC that didn't have the top of my head against the headliner (I'm only 5'11', but I have a tall torso and short legs).

I would say that you should wait one more year and give the model a chance to develop. That, and the ability to see if "late availability" features are to your liking. I don't think you could make a deal at your '10 + $10k. There were lots of posts about dealers selling new '10s off the lot for a $11k discount, so where does that put your depreciation factor when you have miles on the Jeep?

I like the 2010 JC...but to tell you the truth, I didnt even consider the 2010 model when deciding on the 2011 JC. Its that good. That being said, its hard to trade-in so soon but if you can live with the loss in value...I don't think you would regret your decision.

I agree, I'd wait for the 8-speed tranny in a year or two if I had the '10 model already. You also won't be so upside-down with your current loan by then.

Re: Is the WK2 worth the upgrade from a 2010 Limited?

I think my general approach is -- if they want to make me a decent deal, then I'll probably do it.

But, if they expect me to take it in the shorts, then I am probably better off passing on it.

I really do like the new design of the 2011's. Had I known more about what's out, I probably would have held out.

Re: Is the WK2 worth the upgrade from a 2010 Limited?

With my past experience, you will take it in the rear, bad, with a year old model. Like previously stated, dealers are offering HUGE discounts to dump the 2010's on the lots. Sure the 11's are nice but they will be even nicer in a few years. I'd wait a bit, you already have a kickass rig.

Re: Is the WK2 worth the upgrade from a 2010 Limited?

Money isn't an issue.. go for an 2011, its ride/quality is beyond any 2005-2010 and rear leg room, if needed, is a GREAT improvement.
