Is this normal

I have had my new Jeep Summit Hemi for about a month. I already have a few issues but I haven't brought it in to the dealer yet.

#1 The cruise dis-engages and you can't reset it until you turn the motor off and back on. I have read a few posts on this and it sounds like maybe a software issue.

#2 The tranny seems to "growl" and I am wondering if this is normal with the 8 speed? I am coming from a 2011 and it didn't do this. My symptom is that at low speeds - like below 45 mph when you are "lightly" accelerating it sounds like the tranny is making a growling sound. I think it is maybe in between shifts but is kind of stuck between gears? If you accelerate pretty heavy I don't notice it. It seems to do it quite a bit between 25 and 30 and between 40 and 45.

Is this normal? Thx

Re: Is this normal

On #2 are you feeling the MDS activating? At low speed and light acceleration it is noticeable as a slight vibration or growl. The 8 speed for the V8's has been pretty much flawless.

Re: Is this normal

so it could be the cylinders activating or de-activating?

Re: Is this normal

"Multi Displacement System" shutting down four of the eight cylinders under light loads to improve fuel economy. During 4 cylinder operation at low speeds there is a slight imbalance that can be felt as a vibration or growl. Perhaps that's what you're noticing.

I'm gonna guess you have the V6.

If you don't know you don't have it. Turn 8 cylinders into four. Saves fuel - ish.

MULTI

DISPLACEMENT

SYSTEM.

The V6 shouldn't be growling either.

Sometimes the MDS may cause moaning when it's coasting.
Kinda like a jet airplane.

Can be off putting but I think it's normal on the V8s. Shame.

Re: Is this normal

One thing to look at for #1 is the stop lamp switch (goes by different names). Not 100% sure these JGCs use a mechanical switch, but my Yukon did and when it went, same issue.

These type of switches are 2-way, one circuit is open (off) and one closed (on).

When you press the brake pedal it closes the open switch which allows power to your brake lights, but this also opens the closed switch, which turns off your cruise, if on.

If the switch is "bad" on the cruise side that circuit doesn't stay closed.

Re: Is this normal

I think I understand what you are describing, and I agree with the others here, seems to be the MDS kicking in.

Turn off ECO mode for a short time. If yours is like mine, you won't hear the "growling", confirming that it is probably the MDS.
