Re: It Was Good While It Lasted

Looking back, buying the Summit was irrational since I really was looking to buy something to haul the kids around in. But then again, I wanted to drive a SUV not a minivan, especially since I was following the WK2 for nearly a year before I bought it.

Now that I think about it, I could have bought a minivan from the get-go and have money left over to buy an S4, If I had made that decision from the beginning. Oh wells, you learn by making mistakes and I have decided I need a european sport sedan at all times in the household...

Re: It Was Good While It Lasted

There is not one vehicle that is best at everything, for most of us life is a compromise and your compromise is personal. Manufactures are adept at taking advantage of human nature and our emotional responses, however.

IMHO. The WK2 makes a lotta sense if you need the optimum in winter traction and go anywhere capability. If you are hauling kids and don't drive in mud or deep snow, the minivan makes a lot more more sense. You can't beat them for function and as an everyday transportation appliance. When on vacation with a family of six, I am always renting a mini-van.

While the kids were growing up I owned an AWD minivan to haul the family, a 4WD pickup truck for hauling material, towing, and for beating up in bad weather, and a small sporty car (often a soft top) for good weather commuting and taking to the club. Motorcycle were for fun, performance, and mpg (70 mpg on the highway in a vehicle with 0.25 hp per pound is not all that bad). I got tired of the effort and cost of maintaining three vehicles and the WK2 V8 is, I think, a nice compromise for me. It has the all weather capability as well as being fun to drive. I can rent a trailer if I need to haul something. I still have a couple motorcycles for those times I want to play. Works for me.

Re: It Was Good While It Lasted

Got rid of the bike very soon after my first was born; couldn't have him growing up without me. Did the minivan thing for about 8 years. It was what I needed at the time and was perfect to haul my two babies up to about age 6.

When the kids were younger I would have entertained the idea of a minivan but the DW wanted nothing to do with them. Go figure.

Do you mean "retired", but it comes out sounding like "retarded"?

Irrational thinking like this has made millions for general motors, ther love to take advantage and are good at it.

A suburban is way too unmenuverable, way too big for mall parking lots but if you need to haul large over a long distance over wide open spaces, you can't beat them. Except that when it's raining you will get wet when you stop and go back and slap one of the passengers arround. With a decent minivan, you just walk through, no rain, snow, cold, heat.

I jest about the physical violence but changing a diaper or retrieving a dropped toy for a irritable child are other examples.

I just always jump over the center console and sit in the back for a little. 😊
