It's a real Jeep!

After a month with no issues, day one of month two the Jeep Gremlin raised its ugly head. I was listening to music via the usb as I do every day. Turned off the Jeep and went in to pick up a pizza. When I restarted 5 minutes later, "No Device Present". I turned off the engine, opened and closed the door, no change. I just went out to pull it into the garage and the song picked up, I think, exactly where it left off.

Hopefully the Gremlin has had his fun and will sleep for another month.

Re: It's a real Jeep!

It probably would have sorted itself on it's own.

If it doesn't, try another USB stick.

I've seen that message once in a while but it will come back on it's own.

Those extra fancy smancy leather seats probably had the Jeep fooled for a while - an identity crisis of some sort - glad it knows it is a Jeep now!

Re: It's a real Jeep!

My jeeps radio display decided to turn completely blue during my last drive. Radio, navigation, volume, preset stations all still functioned normally using the manual controls just the screen was entirely blue. Put the car in park, turned it off, opened the drivers door and then started her back up. Everything kicked back up like nothing ever happened.

Sometimes the jeep wants to tell you its thinking about you, it just has a super messed up way of doing so.

Re: It's a real Jeep!

I started mine up the other day. The radio was set to a local FM rock station. After a minute or so, up pops a weather advisory box... FREEZE WARNING with that day's date until 14:00 (2:00pm).

I thought that was pretty strange that the warning was running until 2:00pm on a day that had a forecasted high near 70.

After I closed the box I started wondering whether that freeze warning was in reference to the weather or UConnect.

Re: It's a real Jeep!

Knock on wood, the electronics on mine have performed flawlessly thus far, (year and a half). My only gripe with the entire system, is the radio that defaults to turning itself on every time you get in and start up. I can't believe they don't have a setting to change that to a completely manual on / off radio setting.

You could turn your volume down to 0 before shutting the vehicle off. It will remember that setting the next time you start it up. Then it'll be just like having the radio off.

I've never tried the mute button so I can't say if that setting would be remembered on the next start up.

Re: It's a real Jeep!

These entertainment systems sometimes have a mind of their own...one they lose occasionally for some digital reason or another. The more stuff that gets added to them, the more complex the code and that means more opportunity for Mr Murphy to have a field day.

Hopefully, you'll not experience this again or with great infrequency.

I agree. When it happened I never even thought 'dealer visit'. I just wondered how long it would take to work again.

Re: It's a real Jeep!

The USB device driver didn't come active fast enough. My 2015 RA4 has the same
behavior with my iPod if I leave it as the active device when I turn the power off. My solution is to always select AM/FM/SXM before turning it off.

Interesting. Although it has always come back on except for yesterday, if it happens one more time I will try to remember to switch to FM.

I hate having to press more than start and stop in a car that can even keep itself in a lane. But if that's what it takes I'll deal with it.

Huge gripe for me, too.

Just give me the ability to turn the damn thing off. Sometimes, I just want silence....

Related to the topic, I occasionally used to have issues with my SD card not being recognized. Then I locked the card and those issues went away.

Some USB drives have lock switches on them too. Maybe try locking the drive when it's in the car.
