The sales manager at my local dealer just called me back and sure enough Saddle interior and the 730N RHR radio is orderable for a standard Overland. I already placed my order on the 4th and he told me my order is already beyond being able to be modified so he would have to replace the entire order. I guess not a big deal since I was only a week into it anyway. I originally ordered a dark charcoal pearl with the light beige interior but originally wanted Saddle and as soon as I found out about the new RHR radio I wanted that to.

So with all that said I just placed another order (previous order cancelled) and now have on order the following with my new VON # and all:

2011 Grand Cherokee Overland 4x4
-Hemi V8
-Dark Charcoal Pearl
-New Saddle/Black interior
-Adaptive cruise/Advanced Warning
-730N RHR radio

Im super excited now to know I was able to get 100% what I wanted. The sales manager at my dealer has been extremely helpful and he also said that he was able to input my email addy into my order and he said he hasnt tried it yet, but looks like I will get status updates directly from them when available.

Thanks,
James

James -

I called the dealer today. They pulled the POC. They were suppose to fax it to me, but I didn't receive it before I left.
It is ordered, but that really doesn't mean much. The disclosure on the bottom of a POC really says it all (or actually says nothing about what you will actually get)

"The prices and equiptment shown on this priced order confirmation are tenative and subject to change or correction without prior notification. No claims against content listed or prices quoted will be accepted. Refer to the vehicle invoice for final vehicle content and pricing. Orders are accepted only when vehicle is shipped by the factory."

I really want to believe that Chrysler actually opened up ordering for the Saddle/Black interior for one day (?), and your vehicle and mine slipped through, but I suppose we'll have to wait and see, because, with a disclosure like this, they can do (and have) whatever they want.

I do know that mine required a regional/zone manager to push through since my dealer (long time big Chrysler/Dodge, but new Jeep dealer) didn't have an allotment for an Overland. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

The Saddle interior is back on restriction for non-Summit models.
Yeah we know, but can you confirm that it actually came off for a couple days last week? There are a couple of us that were able to successfully order saddle on the 12th. Was this intentional or was it not really supposed to be open for normal Overlands? Just kind of curious if it was an error or if they really did intend on offering saddle for a few days then put it back on hold.

Thanks,
James

Can someone tell me what the "problem" is with the 430? I just took delivery on Saturday of a Cherokee Overland. I thought it would have the 730 in it, but it came with the 430 (Garmin GPS). Other than not having voice command for entering GPS addresses, what's the difference? The Garmin interface is great, BTW.

#71 ·
That's pretty much it, no voice integration, no Sirius traffic (until they update it on Feb.), no dead reckoning, no split screen.

It's really personal preference. My preference is the 430N so I hope Jeep doesn't decide to slide in a 730N(RER) in its place like they did on one Overland I saw the other day.

Its ridiculous that a brown leather is always having productions issues. You can order saddle in BMW's for a long time... no demand issues... whats the matter with Chrysler???

Re: official Saddle interior and new 730N RHR as an option

The 730 is now an option you must pay $305 for it in the summitt. this has flip flopped 3 times, 1st an option on overland, then std on summitt and now an option on summitt.
In my opinion it's New Saddle or nothing. once u see it, u gotta have it! dont like what jeep did though by making new saddle ONLY available in the "summitt" (from mid december on) with only four ext colors now called "25R" package which adds a few options and makes them standard,(acc, blind spot, rear cross path and adv collision warning,) but adds $4000 to the price plus the hemi cost of $1995 totaling to $48,465! I bought one only because i worked in the industry, know the "deal" and delt with the Gen Sales mgr from the get go and its a cash deal. I paid $2000 under invoice, YEA! they make their money on their "hold back" + "the reserve" + "a little something-something" plus any trade u may make. as of a few days ago you cant order anything with saddle int (as per Jeep) because of the excessive interest. If you were lucky to order one early u got a overland with hemi and just new saddle which was 25P package your lucky and saved yourself $4000. trust me i sat with this guy while he called all 25 dealers within 300 mi of ny that had new saddles "in Transit" with the 25p package, every one was sold! If i couldnt find one with new saddle, overland or summitt i was buying the new explorer limited with rear bucket seat and center console, but wow it was $48,500 optioned that way! Way to close to new summitt price for it to be arbitrarly dont you think?
AND JUST ANNOUNCED A 70TH ANNAVERSERY MODEL!
Way to many big changes for a new modle year redesign vehicle

2011 Grand Cherokee Overland Summitt
Hemi pkg
Brilliant Black
New Saddle int (and new saddle dashboard)
ACC
Blind spot
Cross Path
Collision warning
Summitt Badges
20" wheels

skier141 - The $4K includes non-standard Overland options that most people want anyway.... ACC. So the Summit really isn't that much more.....

$2K under invoice..... I'll order another. At that price I'm sure we could round up a dozen or two orders for that dealer.....

For those that were curious from before on why my POC order sheet showed the 730N RHR as a credit, I was able to confirm today that my order does infact show Black/New Saddle interior and the 730N RHR radio. I was assigned a VIN several days and just got off the phone with the hotline and she confirmed for me that those are the options in my Jeep. As for why I was credited $465 for the RHR who knows and who cares probably just a glitch like Milous said. All that matters is thats whats slatted to be in my Jeep.

For those that didnt see it this is my POC sheet and you can see for some reason it actually credited me money back for the RHR. Sounds good to me if they wanna pay me for the upgraded radio ;-)

Saddle is not being held up for marketing reasons, it's purely a supply issue. When large numbers of unexpected orders come through it can take awhile for suppliers to ramp up production.

As far as your purchase goes, my advice is to get exactly what you want - EVEN IF you have to wait a couple more months. Believe me, when the day comes that you finally get your vehicle, you'll be glad you waited. And if you get a vehicle before that, without the feature(s) you want, you'll later regret having not waited.

Dang. So does that mean that any car ordered on the 12th or later that ordered 730n is going to sit in D or D1 status for a long time until those radios are available? I guess they would have to.

I see the production hold also:

Rugged Brown Pearl (PTW) is on hold until 01/26/11.

So.....I guess the estimated shipping of my Summit is delayed past the 1/31/2011 ship date. The Hotline told me today that February 14th was more likely to be the new ship date but I guess the 730N RHR which shows on the new build sheet holds it up even further huh? Oh well.....the agony of it all! I'm sure it is worth it though!!!!!!!!

#93 ·
That is a good point. The Hotline also said my sheet says 430, but my dealer said the build sheet update he has (I don't have a copy of that one yet) says the 730N. I told the hotline about that and she said she did not have the dealer access list.......so who do you believe? It seems like a pretty poor move on the part of Jeep to jack around their customers on their top-o-the-line model when they are trying to bring the company back to a healthy state. So........I'm with you, just build the darn thing!!!

#94 ·
This same thing happened to me. Had my ordered changed when RHR became available to order to include it. Had the build sheet to prove it. However, last week when I was assigned my VIN, I called the hotline to make sure it included the RHR and the representative said it did not. It included the RHB. After reading that the RHR will not be produced until March, I, like Dan, decided to just go with the RHB because I am ready for my new Jeep! I'm becoming increasingly impatient and ready for my new ride. I just finished grad school in December and this vehicle is my graduation present. If I just can't live with the RHB, I'll buy the RHR down the road.

It's CRAZY.....I mean we're trying to give Jeep $45K and they delay delay delay..... No wonder they went bankrupt. It is like going into a store and they make you wait in ridiculously long lines....makes no sense, the store spent a ton of money on marketing to get you into the store, built a store, hired people, stocked the store, outfitted the store, and you loaded things into the cart and are ready to hand them money and they blow by being cheap by not having enough cashiers. One rule in business that I've learned....NEVER EVER EVER EVER make customers wait or be inconvenienced to give you money.

Ask Target! This sounds like their business practices and how is THAT working out for them?

Big picture, Fiat's transformation of Chrysler has been astonishing in its speed and scope. I can't recall anything comparable unless you reach back to the incredible industrial transformation our country undertook after Pearl Harbor.

This task is also taking place just as suppliers have been going under, and those remaining have years of unfortunate experiences in trying to do business with Chrysler. These relationships, critical to smooth production, take years to get to the point where suppliers are willing to give Chrysler front teat, rather than some of the foreign automakers with plants in this country and, more recently, Ford.

That doesn't ease the frustration faced just now when it's your order that is being delayed and re-delayed. Customers are, after all, looking for results, not excuses. But odds are that these teething issues will fade in time, and hopefully be but a dim memory over the next year or so.

#99 ·
Geeez my order which apparently has 3 items that are all likely to cause delays in my specific build (saddle,RHR,dark charcoal). Watch mines going to be delayed soo much it's going to end up being a 2012 model LOL.

Thats great news!! Yeah we are gonna have to wait and see what happens here. Just be glad you dont have a color thats probably about to be cancelled lol. Ofcourse maybe thats an excuse for them to hussle mine through:D Then again they cant since I ordered the 730N that is being delayed. Ohhh Chrysler.

#113 ·
** Update - Order banks for Saddle on non-Summit Overland models will reopen on Feb. 10th. **
Oh WOW thats great news for those that have been waiting for it!! Thats only less than two weeks away!

That could also be good news for me who ordered it on the 12th in that maybe there wont be a crazy long delay since that makes my order not as unique....or it could be a bad thing in that they wont sequence mine for production until they start rolling saddle overlands through production again. Man, I think we dig way too deep into this stuff haha:lol:

#116 ·
Even though I just ordered mine on 1/24/11 are they still able to update my order to saddle? Please please please.
Well they are not going to be able to even update it until the 10th of next month as Milous stated. I am 97% certain that by that time your order will not be able to be modified. Infact, its probably already beyond that point now (atleast mine was when I ordered mine).

The good news is you can simply cancel that order and have them re-order a new one on the 10th in exactly the setup you want. Thats what I would do.

I thought that the sales manager was Aaron Lang, but when I looked at the website, it said that the sales manager AND partner was Jim Kinney. James is correct (he made the deal already, so he'd know better than I would anyway). Aaron might be the New car sales manager, while Jim is probably his boss.

Is it bad etiquette to ask for a different salesman when I already had established contact with another one? Please don't get me wrong, if it will save me a good amount of money, I'll change up.

Thanks James for the info!

Damn guys sorry about that it was so easy to get that price I almost thought it was something they wouldnt have a problem doing again. I was able to get that deal for one other guy believe it or not who purchased all the way from Washington state!!!! Oh well I guess stuff changes at the dealership and its all about the timing.
Just an FYI the other dealership willing to work on price is Mancari's in Oak Lawn.
