The one ur looking at above is an 8 footer. Ended up too damn tall for my ceilings and had to cut some off lol(forgot my tape measure when heading out to cut). It did stick out on both sides of the jeep but on the main roads there was still room between the lines when looking in the mirrors

Re: It's That Time of Year Again...

We used a friends 4'x8' trailer. Ended up getting trees for the family and delivering them.

I wouldn't ever think of putting a tree up on top -- even if I had bars. Good purchase.

Re: It's That Time of Year Again...

I have at least a 7.5', more likely 8'. I dropped the passenger side rear seat and left the tailgate open, then held the tailgate down by tying twine between the back glass and the tow hook. Put a pillow case underneath the twine so that it didn't mess up my paint. Wrapped the tree in a bed sheet to help reduce the needle droppings.

Seemed to work fairly well, but I would have preferred a cargo rack like you have (but I don't have the tow package).

Re: It's That Time of Year Again...

Thats why you use a sheet or a blanket underneath it.

I'm about as anal as anybody you'll ever meet when it comes to cars, wash them twice a week, dust them off every night after they've been driven. I've always hauled christmas trees on top of vans/SUVs using a soft blanket underneath and have never had a vehicle dirtied or damaged by a Christmas tree, you've just got to be careful.

To me...thats one of the things a Jeep is for.

I can deal with putting a tree on top, but having to run twine through the door jambs and position rags underneath the twine to prevent damage is where I draw the line. It's one thing to have to do that on a car, but on an SUV...a Jeep no less...it's just ridiculous IMO.

Oh absolutely, I find the lack of any way to tie anything to the roof rack totally ridiculous.

I had a blanket on top and forgot about them running rope through the car, the guys knew what they were doing and I didnt have any paint scuffs or anything like that. So Merry Christmas!

Is this sitting on cross bars or just the roof?
