If you read what I'm saying...I'm not "twisting" anything to benefit Jeep...I'm saying that Jeep obviously has some serious problems. Did you even read anything I posted in this thread?

I'm just trying to make people understand how this survey works. It is absolutely a satisfaction study, thats its goal. Have you every filled out a JD Power IQS survey for a vehicle you've bought? You absolutely can include your displeasure with the operation of anything and it will count as a "problem". I'm not denigrating the survey at all, I quite appreciate JD Power's surveys. Thats the point of this survey, to measure how happy consumers are with the initial quality of the vehicle.

I've been reading these surveys for decades, I've read the testing methodology. This is the point of the IQS study.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

JD Power gathers information at 90 days. At that time they publish 2 different studies. IQS is Initial Quality. APEAL is Automotive Performance Execution and Layout Study. The second one is concerned about likes and dislikes.

It's possible they use the same questionnaire, but the reports are not relaying the same results. One is about quality, the other has to do with likes and dislikes.

They both have merit and shortcomings. But one is more objective than subjective.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

The APEAL study is not what I'm talking about, thats an entirely different survey. I'm telling you, you can indicate a "problem" on the survey as anything you like, and a "problem" does not have to be a fault that requires dealer intervention. Dissatisfaction of the operation of the infotainment system for instance weighs heavily on IQS scores...those issues are more subjective than objective.

For their size and volume they seemed to be the last to get the 14's updates. One year and 20K the Jeep still had the same issues. Sales was poor as well. Took several days to get a good price on a JGC.
Stone Mountain was has a good service department. I couldn't deal with their sales department though. To many "Kids" wanting to make a lot of money off a vehicle they know nothing about.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

It is the questions about quality that is stopping me from buying/ leasing my fifth Jeep. Have a 10 year-old Subaru and a 3 year-old Acura TL and have yet to visit the dealer for anything but regular maintenance. Subaru had an inspection recall due to some lawyers trying to make a buck. My dealer, which I believe sells the most Subarus in the Midwest, had yet to see a single car with the issue, even though they've inspected many many thousands. My heart says buy the new jeep GC but my mind is still saying let's see if things get better this year.

Appreciate the openness here and realize folks usually don't take to the forums when they don't have problems, but the surveys and rankings from third parties still give pause. Plus the Jeep dealer in Mpls I liked is gone, Stephens, and Walser who I worked with after that was horrible. They actually had to videotape all of the sales transactions as they were sued by the State and others so many times. The service dept tried to rip me off on unneeded expensive repairs more than once. So I can't imagine having to deal with Walser on a regular basis or having to travel further to get to a better dealership.

I'm starting to wonder if I wasted $$$ on the extended warranty.

Most people bring to dealer for oil change that often.

2 co-workers bought gc after seeing mine and they are happy too.
You have a 2014 and you're wondering if you wasted $$$s on the lifetime extended warranty? I think it is a bit premature to start thinking like this. I'm just saying, I have a 2013 that just developed a strange rattle in the engine @ about 34k miles. Also have a lifetime extended warranty, and seems like a no-brainer to me. If I didn't have that and I heard that noise just a few months later I'd be sweating bullets.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

First, I love my 2011 Overland. It's my fourth consecutive Jeep GC over the past 20 years. But of all my Jeeps, this one has given me the most problems including air suspension failure, door locks failing, sun visor falling off, leak at flipper window, brake booster replacement, and now rattling of my pano roof to name a few. It's off warranty now so my pano roof continues to annoy me.
But I still think this is the best driving, featured GC and would buy another.

Well remember that you're a "jeep faithful" guy, and nothing wrong with that of course; but your loyalty probably runs much deeper than guys like me who are new to the brand and the GC. My only complaint is the horrid transmission tuning which I hope to tune out in a few weeks after my vacation; the jeep has been great otherwise. But man, the horror stories I'm reading on these two forums is making me very nervous, I keep waiting for the axe to fall. If I run into just one or two major issues it might make me more inclined to offload and replace before I get dragged down into a cycle of in-and-out-the-shop.

Jeep can't continue down this current road. Yes the GC is currently a hot selling item, but eventually all this BS is going to catch up to them and they will feel the effects if they don't slow down and get a handle on these issues.

Misaligned body and door panels are unacceptable. I can't tell you how many WK2'S I see in the road with these. I don't see this with other vehicles. Unbelievable how bad JNap QC is and still sells like hotcakes. My 2011 was worse. My 97 ZJ panels were spot on. Go figure.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

I agree with the survey. My 2014 has the worst fit and finish of any car I've ever owned. Definitely worse than my 2011 and even worse than my '99 VW Jetta which was pretty bad. To be fair the Jetta had a ton of mechanical issues as well which hopefully the Jeep will avoid.

Re: Toyotas are more reliable, yeah, because they don't actually have any features on them thus there's nothing to break. Every time I get in a Toyota the electronics look like they haven't changed since the '90s. The Prius is an exception, but other than that center screen that shows the power consumption the rest of the electronics are still bare-bones.
