JD Power Initial Quality

I am really surprised that there have been no threads re: the JD Power Initial quality survey. Jeep finished second to last, only bettering cousin Fiat. I can concur with these findings. My 14 JGC has spent more time going back for service than any other car I have owned. I am starting to regret my purchase. Somehow Jeep is selling vehicles as fast as they can make them, but I still wish they would concentrate on quality, as I truly want to like this vehicle.

I'm really surprised that you think there wasn't. The other thread from a couple of days ago even provided a link to the survey.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

Mine was just built in May. The only problem I've had is with the radio, it would randomly, and constantly, turn itself off and lose signal. I did the flash and that didn't help, turned out to be a loose connection on the amp itself. All is well now, I love this thing.

1 year in, 15k. And only 2 visits for transmission firmware.
Will make another visit for hvac firmware and brake booster recall.

Pretty happy so far.

Builds in early 2013 really skewed the stats and that may tarnish things for a long long time.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

Perfect here as well… Granted, December 2013 build… But still, absolutely no issues.

For those wanting a extraordinarily reliable transportation vehicle, by an Asian brand (period).

I'm sorry, I Jeep will never be as reliable as a Toyota… face it… If you can live with that, by the Jeep, if not, by the Toyota. Just my two cents.

Potentially 3 trips to the dealership in one year, and you're happy with that?

I'd be alright with that if it were just for flashes as he states. People have different levels of tolerance for such things. Why does that confuse you? Now if it had physical issues and I had to go 3 times I might be upset, especially if the Jeep was unusable.

To the point though...I wish JD Power would separate it by more than model year. From my "life" on Jeep Garage, I can see a HUGE difference both in the number and severity of problems as the 2014 model year has gone on. Jeep is still letting some silly things get through - like the CV boot clamp, but overall things have been getting better. I'm betting a lot of those issues in JD Power are from the early 2014 MY builds, and I'm guessing those from late in the model year have been less severe.

I also believe that a vehicle like the JGC which relies heavily on software is getting hurt more than those that are less reliant on software. The bad news is we have to take it back and get flashed showing up on JD Power, the good news is we get a software fix to the problem.

So far my 2/14 build has been perfect. There's one recall coming up for the ACC issue (just a flash) and I'm spending my own money to protect the diesel DEF injector (nothing has happened, just preventative) which annoys me a bit, but overall the vehicle has been fantastic in my admittedly limited time with it - 2500 miles, 2.5 months. There are lots of others out there with perfect Jeeps too, they just have nothing to say.

I certainly wouldn't trade mine for anything else.

Re: JD Power Initial Quality

Our JGC has not been that great so far. Two and half weeks at the dealer for the CV boot, multiple fit and finish issues and now a CEL for a cylinder misfire. All within the first few months of ownership. It is my wife's car and needless to say, she is extremely frustrated with how often we're visiting our dealer (who is pretty good by the way).

Wonder why after having a couple of decades to address their quality issues that certain manufacturers are still making cars with so many problems. Don't these guys pretty much use the same manufacturing techniques and suppliers? The disparity between Honda/Toyota and Jeep, for example, can't be attributable solely to design.

Zhe Wiz, agree with you that there are lots of happy Jeep owners - I truly want to be one of them - out there but well done polls/surveys are generally pretty accurate reflections of the broader issue that such surveys are attempting to measure. It is hard to dispute based on JD Power's survey and others that Jeep has a quality problem relative to many of its mainstream peers, our individual experiences aside.
