Because that is the reputation that Jeep, differently than others, must maintain with their SUVs. Many of us are not off-road hobbyists, and yet still equip them in that way, mainly for the foul weather and occasional foray onto dirt. Don't look at 0-60 numbers, but instead, wait to see some real world 30-70 mph speeds to compare the usable power range. I agree with above though to a certain respect: the 0-60 times are being strangled by diff gearing. My WJ has a 3.73 rear end while the WK2 gets a 3.09, with the same trans. We haven't seen numbers yet for the trans gearing, but assume that it is the same. Most likely done to get the MPG rating a touch higher.

The LR4's acceleration numbers might be off- Car and Driver is quoting about a second faster to 60mph than the manufacturer (who puts it closer in line with the Hemi GC). Until a Hemi GC is actually tested, I'm not sure calling it a dog is justified. Besides, you still overestimate how often you actually USE that kind of acceleration. Talk all you want about 2 lane passing- if you're needing the full overbearing power that will get you immediate acceleration to 100mph, I have to wonder if you're doing it right. Still, you're even ignoring one simple fact: people who have never seen a vehicle with too much power are calling even the V6 perfectly adequate in the Grand Cherokee.

As for the off road capability, in the words of the Jeep managers, if you take that away, then what makes it special? You might as well go buy an Explorer.

Seriously, it sounds like your needs and desires don't run towards the Grand Cherokee. So what, just go get something else. Every single vehicle is a compromise, and anybody telling you otherwise is a liar. You're either trading acceleration for efficiency or something else for something yet different. Deal with it.

I just don't get why you seem to be all worked up over a 0-60 time that isn't on par with a sports car. Wait for the SRT (which does sacrifice the off road capability) or just buy something else. If you were expecting a vehicle that was just another luxury SUV, I have to wonder why you are into Jeeps.

I think this is correct. The final drive is on the high side, and it was done to keep efficiency numbers up. I don't really blame them for this decision; 8.5 to 60 is plenty, and actually somewhere in the middle if you took every vehicle currently in production and ranked them.

5.7Unlimited is just really nice
Re: Jeep arrive in Canada,my first test drive.

WK2 has 3.47 rear end with 5.7 and 545RFE. It's the 3.6 with the W5A580 that is geared as 3.09 I think.

For the love of god people, don't talk about 0-60 times on a Jeep, Technosavant will kill your entire family.

I just find it a bit silly. It isn't like the new Grand Cherokee is that much slower than previous generations or that all other Jeeps are speed machines. But all of a sudden, because it won't break the seven second mark, it's a dog?

It's perfectly adequate, and adequate is exactly that. More speed never hurts, but they'd just never manage to sell many at 14mpg highway.

Re: Jeep arrive in Canada,my first test drive.

Wow is the new GC really only 0-60 in 7.5 secs? I know I know I am not dwelling or judging, just asking! Don't kill my family

I love the 5.7 in my 2008...ran a 6.4 0-60 slightly uphill with my Dad in the Jeep...I think with a little TLC I could get it sub-6 sec...now I did not buy the Jeep for 0-60 or speed in general for that matter, BUT I am not a big off-road guy (I got a 2wd) so the extra weight/capabilities of the WK2 might not be for me. I love the interior from what I have seen, and if I was to move to a more rural area the Air-lift suspension would be cool!!!

Thanks for the write-up about the new Jeep...I really want one but at least I have a great Jeep now that I am enjoying so the wait won't be too bad!
