This is so true...in more than one way. It is true that the JK crowd has low regard for the Grand Cherokee. And it is also true that the Grand Cherokee is mostly a mall crawler.

I see dozens of Grand Cherokees every day. Dozens. I am one of the pompously self-titled "founding fathers" (shit, I organized the first meeting and I was the only attendee, I should give myself even more credit) of the Chicago club and organize meetings. I see about 1 Trail Rated vehicle for every 100 Grand Cherokees out there. I purposely look for the badge...and it ain't there. I have seen it on Limiteds and on Laredos. I have not yet seen it on an Overland. People don't care for the "lifestyle" that supposedly comes with owning a Jeep or with the "lifestyle" advertised in their TV commercials.

And that is why I believe that finding 2-3 non-Wrangler Jeeps parked together in a parking lot is just mere statistics and laws of probability. Wranglers, turbocharged Subaru and a few other cars (EVOs, G35/37s, Mustangs, Land Cruisers, Range Rovers, Ford F150s, etc.) - well that is not random. Owners seek each other. But Grand Cherokee owners...no. They just park where there was a spot.

f1anatic, my cherry red Overland is THE only one in my area & I love it! I have not seen another one anywhere, thus I get LOTS of attention wherever I drive or park! The pearl paint just sparkles in the sunshine!

Beautiful Jeep! I can't get over how different it looks in the red - really stands out and shows off the body lines 👍

Jeep attraction

In my area people don't live 'the lifestyle' in their wranglers either unless you count cruising Main Street for low fat yogurt with the top off lol

Almost everyone who has a wrangler with a lift and nice AT tires never went off road with it, unless maybe the beach. Thats what they tell me when I ask anyway.

I disagree with u about the parking. I don't just take any spot. I put it in the back to avoid dings when I can and if I see another jeep I go toward that.

Re: Jeep attraction

I park at least 4 stalls away from the nearest car per/hr. of shoping.

Thanks! I was originally looking for a black or silver Overland. But when I saw the cherry red, it was all over! I don't know if there is a nicer red by any other manufacturer! I get soooo many compliments on the color, alone! On top of that, in town when I put the hammer down & it roars off, the looks & comments @ the next set of lights is PRICELESS!

Re: Jeep attraction

You guys are missing the point. I too park far away from cars and shopping cars, always with one or more sides protected by a sidewalk, always uphill of any shopping cart stalls so that any shopping car don't stroll into my bumpers.

But any Grand Cherokee or Jeep parking next to yours is more likely a coincidence than intentional behavior.

You can't explain this as a coincidence....

Re: Jeep attraction

Simple. The photo appears to be in an industrial, semi-rural area. With a limited number of people assigned a general parking area, owners congregated around other parked cars, without a specific rhyme or reason other than "this is the parking area - I park next to them, I will have <<herd immunity>> against theft or tickets or nasty notices left on the dashboard". The choice of parking spots was dictated by their respective arrival times.

A lot of you are thinking too much with this Jeep seeks Jeep mentality. SRT or lifted JK owners ? Yeah...I can see that because it takes an enthusiast to buy an SRT or modding the rig. Two Liberty, a Grand Cherokee and a Wrangler ...is mere coincidence, just like in the DMV parking lot of any mountainous state of our Union. The choice of cars was dictated by the climate in which people drive and the choice of parking space was dictated by the common work place, NOT by the conscious decision of creating photo ops of Jeeps lined up.

We are a few hundred or thousand users on this site and others like this. We probably do not even represent a dismal one percent (or even less) of what Jeep sells every year. We, here, are bound by some common mentality or interest. But the retirement age lady office assistant with the RWD Liberty, the college co-ed with the even older Liberty don't give two cents about your Grand Cherokee and parking next to it. Maybe the hippie with the Wrangler might tell you in a deep voice "Nice rice....duuuude".

Re: Jeep attraction

COINCIDENCE - dictated by something in common, other than the car, be that parking constraints or interests (i.e. biking)

Quote:
Crosstrek XV is gaining popularity among mountain bikers as illustrated by this photo yesterday at a trail head in Belmont, CA. At the trail head yesterday, there were two other Crosstreks parked beside us. We chatted with the owners and they were almost as excited talking about their cars as they were with their bikes.
SOURCE:
Review: Subaru XV Crosstrek Long Term Update - Mtbr.com

So ask yourself this ? What got them there in the first place ? Was it the cars or was it mountain biking? Could have they parked in the same spot had they been driving different cars ?

Compare it with this (attachments). You'll know the difference. And yes, I organized those meetings (Cruises). What got us there in the first place ? So...correlation doesn't mean causality.
