Re: Jeep Cherokee Lemon to a 2015 WK2

So it seems the V8s have better luck on being good from the start? I don't tow much and if I do its not anything super large that would really require a V8. the V6 would be more my size so I can get at least ok MPG. I always liked the WK2s when they first came out but had just bought a home. Now I am in a position to upgrade with this Cherokee Lemon, which hopefully is painless but we'll see.

I have a recent production 2015 Altitude with the V6 and 8 speed and it's been good so far. I think you take a risk with any new purchase unfortunately (and that's not limited to domestics). I think you just have to get what you want and accept that you may have to work through it. I lemon'd a 2006 350Z and still ended up getting a 2008 a year later, and it was perfect.

All the Cherokees we drove were were just as bad as ours leading me to believe that the issue is inherent in the design. In other words, if you have one that isn't bad, it's pure dumb luck.
Sales of the Cherokee are too high for it to be just dumb luck to get a good one. As I stated above my Cherokee has been perfect except (and I have mine loaded with all of the option toys) for a minor brake problem which Chrysler more than took care of. I am convinced that two things cause the Cherokee transmission problem. One continually throwing TSB/flashes at it and Two continually playing with all of the modes. Except for when the weather absolutely calls for it I keep my transmission in auto mode. My Cherokee is more than a year old now and I have never, ever had a problem with it and I drive it hard. I see hundreds if not thousands of them running around southeast Michigan all of the time. Other than the minor brake problem mentioned mine has only been in the dealer's service department once in all of the time I have had it (over a year now) and that was for an oil change. Speaking of oil changes. I should be coming up on another after January. My dealer threw in a 4 oil change package to make the deal but it has to be used within 2 years. I am going to get an oil change then just to use them up even though my Cherokee is not calling for one.

I gave up on my 2014 JGC Limited due to significant transmission issues, which included RPM alarms while passing. I loved the truck so much, I gave the 2015 a try. I am now 3 months in with no recalls, flash updates or transmission issues. I am hoping my early build 2014 was just a bad time to purchase a new model year vehicle. I wouldn't be afraid to go for the 2015.

Still driving my '99 GC - superb vehicle with only a few small problems. Bought it used 9 years ago - it is my third Jeep. Fantastic line of vehicles.
